If you had post partum depression are you planning (or have) to have another child? If so what is your plan? meds right away? etc? things you will do differently etc? ...I had PPD and we are planning to have another baby in the next yr or so and I want to have things in place to make sure things are much smoother then the last pregnancy.
Re: Regarding PPDepression (for those who had/have it)
I had already been prescribed Celexa long before I had gotten pregnant. When I got pregnant my doctor suggested I stay on it through my pregnancy & I did. About 4 (maybe 6?) months after I gave birth I went to the doctor because I felt I had PPD & she increased my meds. I was also referred to see a psychiatrist. Recently my psychiatrist & I decided to try getting me off my meds to see how I would do. I didn't think I would do very well, I had honestly resigned myself to taking meds for the rest of my life, but I have done really well. I have had a few bad days, of course, but I am doing very well overall. I have spoken to my psychiatrist about what she thinks is best for TTC #2 & we have decided that it would be best to try for an early spring due date since I also get seasonal depression. DH & I are currently trying to decide whether or not to TTC #2 this summer, or wait until next summer. Personally, I would like to go for this summer, but we are not 100% sure it is the right time - not PPD related, but related to our money/housing/job situations.
I also have extensive plans to have a very different birth experience next time. I had an unwanted c-section & I would like to have an hbac next time as well as do placenta encapsulation as that is known to help with mood & energy in the postpartum period.
Mom, why are you washing my feed in the sink?!
I had PPD with DS, and this time, I just plan to be prepared for it. When you are prepared to deal with the possibility of having PPD, you can deal with it much better. Medication was very helpful to me. If I need it again, I won't be ashamed to ask for it.
But, I'm hoping not to go that route if I don't have to. I'm planning on having my placenta encapsulated, which I've heard can do great things for helping to prevent/treat PPD. You should look into it. Be open minded. It grossed me out at first, but I warmed up to the idea. Now I'm even, dare I say, excited about it!
this is what I am hoping..I had a rough delievery and BF issues that mixed with no sleep and the change of being a mom was rough! so I am hoping that things are better next time!
Placenta ecapsulation is where you have your placenta dehydrated and made into pills/vitamins. Taking them helps restore your energy levels after delivery, helps with milk supply, and helps to fight off PPD. It is generally done by a person who does it regularly or a doula. Some midwives also offer the service. It generally cost somewhere between $100-$200.
Check out this website. It has a lot of great information and can also help you find someone who performs the service in your area.
