Getting back into the swing of things...

My baby will be 2 weeks old today... and I have been getting so anxious to get back to jogging!!  I was walking/jogging and doing my stepper up until the day i checked into the hospital and now I can't wait to get back into a regular work out routine.  I have been doing some light weights and leg lifts the past few days, then yesterday i got on the treadmill for just 25 minutes and did a walk/jog.... it felt great!!  That is until later that night... my entire pelvic region was so sore!!  Does this mean I should hold off on walking all together, or just take it slower??  If i ask my doctor she will just tell me "no" walking or jogging for 6 weeks??  How long before you could walk or jog without any pain??  I had a very easy delivery, but recovery seems to be taking a while!!

  • I over did it my first two weeks with walking and I feel that it made my recovery longer.  I had family in town for the first time and wanted to show them everything and that required a lot of walking.  Just try to take it slower.  Getting back to running for me took longer.

  • My midwife said I should wait to run until my bleeding stopped, and to cut back if I ran and bleeding returned.  I started running again last week, taking it really easy.

  • I waited until after 6 weeks to start running. It was hard to wait. I just walked a lot in the meantime. Once I got the green light to begin running, I jumped right into training for a 1/2 marathon. I spent months training and my pelvic area hurt the entire time after running. After the 1/2, I took a few months off from running and then began training for a full. That couple of months off helped because I no longer had the pelvic pain. I know it is hard to wait, but I'd say let your body heal fully first before jumping back in to running.
