Re: Hospital Bag...

  • Here are some off the wall things I am glad I brought when I had my 2nd... (keep in mind I was there for 3 days due to a c-section)

    a boppy pillow for nursing

a nursing cover( I hated to make visitors leave every time I had to nurse)

a hoodie and a nursing tank for easy access

flip flops for the shower (eek that grossed me out for some reason!)

  • I had a c-section, so I sent DH for some big ol granny panties that I had no idea I'd need. Otherwise I used my toiletries and such, nursing tanks and sweat pants, slippers to walk around and a robe to cover my butt when I was wearing the gown.

  • great ideas - okaies my list is getting LONGER!!

  • i would have taken out half the stuff i brought (ipod, book, magazine) and put in it's place my own toilet paper and my own towels.  I have wash cloths bigger than the towels at the hospital.  and their tp HURT.  why they think dabbing your lady bits with sand paper moments after pushing out a baby is a good idea is beyond me.

lip balm is good though.  and lotion.  hospitals are really dry.

be sure to have all electronics on your list (computer, charger, phone, charger, camera, extra batteries/charger, video, charger, cord that goes from camera to computer, etc.)

  • Two things I hear that people never remember-- cell & camera chargers!

  • Definitely take: your own pillow (hospital linens are gross), your own towel (again, hospital towels are gross), and flip flops to wear in the shower. Anyone that's ever worked in a hospital knows that they are the nastiest, dirtiest placest on earth.

After showering, I changed into a nursing tank, robe, and awesomely comfy cotton gaucho pants that were super loose. Oh, and slippers, definitely take slippers. A boppy if you're nursing.

Don't bother taking anything for the baby, except your coming home outfit. I had the diaper bag fully stocked and took it, which was a complete waste. Most hospitals will allow you to take everything from the baby's bassinet but the linens (diapers, wipes, alcohol pads, BULB SYRINGE -- very important!), so take a plastic bag of some sort for all of that.

Chapstick is essential. Throw in some small snacks for your hubby. And chargers for phones, cameras, laptops, etc.

  • Personally I would leave my towels/linens and boppy at home.  Hospitals are gross and the last thing you want is your nice clean boppy in that place.  Also....you are going to be bleeding like never before....why chance ruining your towels/linens when you can use the hospitals....even if they are sub-par.
  • I was begging for my contacts (didn't have them in our rush to the hospital), and cleanser/moisturizer.

  • I sent DH back home for:

-my pillow (I hated the crappy hospital pillows)
    -my laptop
-extra pj's that would help with bumping/breast feeding
    -books to read to DD
-movies (we had a dvd player in our room)

My mom ran out and bought me:

    -more pj's
    -bedroom slippers

I wish I had brought my hair dryer (the shower there sucked but not being able to dry my hair and look/feel human was worse) lucky for me they had one at the nurse's station I could borrow.

I packed clothes to bring DD home in (we didn't know she was going to be sick and not come home), clothes for me to go home in, a few snacks, hair ties, my camera but forgot to make sure it was charged Embarrassed and forgot the charger, my phone charger, travel sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, a razor and lotion and a few extra things to make me feel pretty (no serious make-up just a few little things because everyone will want pictures of you and the baby)

  • Seriously I didn't use half the stuff I packed. All I used while there was:

    - My own pillow (I love my pillow and sleep better with it)

    - Paper for the to do a footprint of DS for my scrapbook (they wouldn't do handprints for liabilty:(

    - I used my boppy, but didn't end up using it for nursing. It was amazing to use to sit on because I couldn't sit on anything flat because I hurt so bad. I even used it on the car ride home.

    - Comfy, loose fitting clothes, a robe, and slippers (for walking the halls)

    - A coming home outfit for baby

    - Those face wipes that are pre moistened. I was in so much pain I never even showered while in the hospital. I wiped down with those and it made me feel so much better.

    - Only toiletries I used were my toothbrush/paste, contacts, chapstick, and powder.

    - Of course my camera and chargers.

    - Crackers/stuff to snack on

Other then that I didn't use any of the other things I brought!! I way over packed.
