I went in today for my 6 month cleaning/exam and the hygenist informed me that United Concordia/Tricare covers an extra cleaning (cleaning only, not exam with the dentist) if you are pregnant to help prevent pregnancy gingivitis, which can lead to pre-term labor and low birth weight.
I had no idea about the gingivitis issue or the extra cleaning, so hopefully this will be helpful info to someone else as well.
For non military ladies, it might be worth looking into your insurance to see if they have a similar policy for pregnant women.
Re: Military Ladies/Wives - Extra Pregnancy Teeth Cleaning
So united concordia covers the whole thing or is there still a copay? And does it matter if you're standard or prime?
Either way, thanks for the info! Very good to know!
I think the dental insurance is the same whether you're on tricare standard or prime, because it's two different types of insurance.
Thanks for posting this. I need to get into my dentist really soon. I've already been having some bleeding when I brush/floss.
I'm not too overdue for an exam/cleaning. I was supposed to go in March, but that's when I got my bfp so it's been crazy. I plan on scheduling something after my OB appt on Friday because MY MOUTH SUCKSSSS (no pun intended lol).
No problem! For me, UC covers the entire cleaning, but I see a dentist whose cost is covered 100% because of the amount he bills. I've never had a dental copay. Like MamaCat mentioned, it doesn't matter for dental if you are standard or prime. It might be worth a call to your dentist if you schedule the extra cleaning to make sure you don't get stuck with a big bill afterward!
