School-Aged Children

My crazy 6 year old

This morning she is whining about how she doesn't like school, doesn't like to read, can't read....

Her book order came in today from Scholastic books. I got her 5 different things. One was a simpler, pack of Curious George books filled with sight words. She loved it. They were only about 13 pages each with a simple sentence on each page. I guess simplifying it made it much easier for her. She read 2 books all by herself and was so proud of herself, she wanted to keep going.

I was feeling very proud tonight :)

  • Well good for her! That's awesome that she was able to read them quite easily and feels better about herself.

  • Yay! I kind of went through this with my son too. It took a long time for him to feel confident enough to tackle reading on his own.  Reading books that were really comfortable for him helped him gain confidence.  Then, he just got to a point where all of a sudden, he was willing to tackle harder stuff!

It's a great feeling when your kid is learning to read!
