Question for you ladies in Boston or nearby

For those of you that used AICGB how was your experience? Would you recommend it over Boston IVF. We're planning to schedule a consultation appointment and I'm not sure what to expect or which would be the best clinic to work with. I'm so excited to finally be getting closer to TTC, we originally planned to wait until next year but it looks like things will be happening a lot sooner!

Re: Question for you ladies in Boston or nearby

  • We went to Reproductive Science Center for an initial consult and were not impressed but ended up meeting Dr. Anania through them and loved her!  We found our she, and a bunch of dr's from RSC, opened a new clinic, Fertility Solutions and, if my wife decides to ttc, will be going there.  BostonGayGal just went there and is pregnant!  Anania is great.  I know 2 lesbian couples who are/were pregnant through her and have nothing but great things to say.  I would check her out!  Good luck!

  • Are you doing IVF or IUI?  If you are doing IUI and have no health issues, I can recommend a MUCH cheaper doctor in Cambridge who does IUI's but not the whole she-bang (monitoring, etc.) it is like 175.00 per insme.  He is great and got me pregnant!

  • AICGB is great but the scope of their work is limited.  We started with them because we were interested in the least amount of pushing/meds/invasiveness/ect possible.  The midwives are kind and non-clinical.  They are also very inexpensive. I wish they could have gotten us pregnant.

But, since they dont have the expertise or resources for more in-depth fertility treatments, we had to move on from them.

  • We had a great experience with AICGB and got pregnant on try 3.  Brit had even better luck with getting pregnant on try 1 with them.  I really liked them and they were all really nice.  I had no medical problems so I wanted to try with non medicated iui first.

We also had the same approach - wanted to try AICGB for some time with a non-medical approach and just see if it worked.  I got pregnant on try #3 only to have a chemical pregnancy, but try #6 is our success story.  After try #5 we actually went and consulted with Dr. Ashby at the Brigham Infertility clinic.  She was amazing and I would have loved to work with her, but she really wanted us to try the low intervention route for a few more months before switching gears.  She basically said that IUI with frozen sperm can often take a bit longer due to the deficit created by the freezing.  So,  if your typical couple should try for 6 months (at age 35) before leaping into more exploration, she felt we should try for a bit longer than that first before switching gears.  So we were close to starting to work with her, but then had success.  In general, I thought the midwives at AICGB were great.  Much cheaper than most other options, very friendly, and easy to work with.  So if you do not know of any particular health issues and want to try low intervention first, they can be great.
  • I would recommend AICGB over Boston IVF to start out, since you are looking at IUIs.  Especially if you want to start unmedicated.  They really are great.  As ssg said, I got pregnant with them on the first try (still can't believe our luck!).  The price is reasonable (we paid $190 for iui in '09), and they allow patients to store sperm there for free, which is amazing (we still have vials sitting there).

The consultation appt there is pretty straight forward, they just talk with you about their procedures, how it all works, etc.  And they give you informational materials.  They do a blood draw as well.
