Hey ladies, DH and I are considering getting a doppler... I am afraid of getting/trying it too early and causing worry. I'm almost 8w (tomorrow). and I'm wondering:
1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive?
2.) When did you first hear something?
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range?
4.) Is it easy to use?
5.) Are you glad you bought it?
Thanks ladies, just a little informal survey. As I approach the point of our last loss with all symptoms looking good so far, I think this may give me some peace of mind!

Re: GTKY If you have a doppler...
1) I ordered it during my 8th week and it arrived when I was 9w1d
2) 9w1d after a lot of trying with all of the tricks. I also watched videos on YouTube to make sure I understood what it should sound like.
3) Sonoline B 3mhz
4) Yes, it is very easy to use. You just have to be patient in the beginning and follow the tips.
5) Absolutely! It is the only thing that has kept me sane. We usually listen every night before bed (for like 30 seconds) and that is enough to get me to not worry through the night and the next day!

1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? 9w3d. Arrived 10w.
2.) When did you first hear something? 10w.
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonoline B. The one most people here get.
4.) Is it easy to use? It is easy for me to use, but it depends on the person I guess. Some people have trouble finding the HB due to multiple factors.
5.) Are you glad you bought it? Best $60 I have ever spent in my life!

1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? I got it around 10 weeks or so.
2.) When did you first hear something? 10.5 weeks or so but it was VERY faint
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? I rented mine for $15 a month.
4.) Is it easy to use? VERY
5.) Are you glad you bought it? VERY VERY VERY! I used it daily and was the only thing that kept me from going crazy.
1.)When did you order it? I think I was around 8ish weeks. When did it arrive? Like 2 days after I ordered it.
2.) When did you first hear something? I tried really early because I was anxious but I was not able to hear anything until 10w1d
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonoline B 3mhz. $60ish. Here is a link to where I got mine.
4.) Is it easy to use? O yes, very. Little gel and off you go!
5.) Are you glad you bought it? Most definitely!! I actually still use mine maybe once a week or so because my baby is SUPER lazy and doesn't really move a whole lot so I like the peace of mind the doppler gives me.
1.) I ordered mine last pregnancy, and I think I got it when the pee was still wet on the stick. It took a little while to come in though. I highly recommend getting the gel too. It lasts forever and has the best sound quality, even though lotion is great in a pinch.
2.) Between 10 and 12 weeks, but I don't recommend trying until after 12. There wasn't any kind of reliability in terms of always hearing the heartbeat.
3.) I got the SonolineB with the 3MHz probe. It was $70 when I got it, but it looks like it is ~$56 on Amazon right now.
4.) I think so. Remember to always go low, slow, and don't be afraid to push in a little. Use it like a joystick to get help you find the heartbeat, and don't freak out about the number. Unless you are right on top of the heart, other noise can distort the counter and a lower number comes up than the actual heartbeat.
5.) I think every slightly anxious pregnant woman should own one. It has helped me so much by providing much needed peace of mind, even now when she moves many times throughout the day.
2.) When did you first hear something? 9w5d
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonoline B 3mhz @ $60
4.) Is it easy to use? yes
5.) Are you glad you bought it? oh yea, it's been a lifesaver!
Thanks so much ladies! Time to start shopping for one!
Edit- and it's ordered! I opted for free shipping, thinking that by the time it actually arrives, the odds of finding the heartbeat will be much higher! Thanks again!
1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? I ordered mine around 9wks and it arrived at 10wks
2.) When did you first hear something? I was listening to my own HB until I finally figured it out around 12wks.
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? I have a sonoline B 3mhz
4.) Is it easy to use? Very easy to use. i use it pretty much every other day or on the days I am feeling down.
5.) Are you glad you bought it? Initially when I couldn't consistenly find my baby's HB, I didn't enjoy having it. After 12wks, I was able to find my baby's HB right away (within seconds) and absolutely love it ever since. It is definitely a must have for me. Stress really messes me up (I get crazy headaches, neckaches, etc), and the doppler definitely helps to decrease my stress.
1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? I ordered it in my 8th week after my OB found the hb with her doppler in the office. It arrived a couple of days later. (Fast and free shipping)
2.) When did you first hear something? I tried at 10w and heard nothing, and freaked myself OUT even though I told myself I'd be calm if it wasn't a success. Fortunately we had an appt. two days later so I knew everything was ok, just too soon for me to successfully use the home doppler. I put it away until 11w5d, and found it that time. Have found it easily ever since.
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonoline B 3mhz. I got it for $57(?) off ebay.
4.) Is it easy to use? Very. Just move slowly, use a lot of gel, and angle the wand a lot before moving on to a new spot. I ran out of the gel they sent with it quickly, so I just use aloe vera gel like you'd use for a sunburn. Works great!
5.) Are you glad you bought it? So, so glad. I don't know how I'd stay calm between appointments. I do a quick check every couple of days. So reassuring. LOVE my doppler.

1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? I ordered it around week 9 with my first PG...it arrived around week 11.
2.) When did you first hear something? 11.5w
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? sonoline A (wish I would have gotten the B model). Around $50?
4.) Is it easy to use? Yep. I use aloe or lotion with it. Don't waste your money on the expesnive "ultrasound gel"...it's a crock. Plus, you can rub aloe/lotion into your skin afterwards
If you're before 14w, just have patience. Have a full to the brim bladder, and enough time on your hands to have patience to lie there and try different positions until you can find the HB. Know and accept that you're only going to have success 50% of the time before 14w.
5.) Are you glad you bought it? Oh yes.
I honestly don't understand the girls who say "oh it would freak me out to have a doppler!", and then two days later post "oh my god, i'm freaking out! I'm going to go to the dr for a doppler check" and then two hours later post "oh, what a relief, the dr was able to find the HB soooo quickly!" Well, no sh!t, sherlock. You could have saved yourself a bunch of worry and trouble by having your own doppler at home. ::headdesk::

1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive?I ordered it when I was 13 weeks got it a few days later
2.) When did you first hear something? First time I tried it
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonaline B 3hz
4.) Is it easy to use? yes very
5.) Are you glad you bought it? yes very
1.)When did you order it? When did it arrive? Ordered it right before week 10, I think it came that same week.
2.) When did you first hear something? I think mid-week of week 10, but it took some finesse!
3.) What is the brand/model/approx. price range? Sonoline B 3mhz. I got it for $60-ish off ebay.
4.) Is it easy to use? Extremely! At the beginning it was harder, but now that she is bigger, I can usually find her right away. I apparently have a very busy baby so I catch her heartbeat and she swims away quickly. Kinda entertaining.
5.) Are you glad you bought it? Incredibly happy I bought it. It is so nice to just hear her heartbeat on stressful days. I love it!
I see that you already purchased one so I just wanted to add that I'll be 11wks tomorrow and have yet to find the hb. So I'm not so glad that I purchased one, but this could change if I ever find it. I am actually thinking about calling my OB tomorrow for a doppler check for peace of mind. The OB nurse found the hb easily at 9w,6d. I am trying to tell myself it's because they have a higher-tech machine and that I might have an anterior placenta.
ETA: I have the Sonoline B. It looks alot cheaper and clunkier than the one at my OB's office. I also have trouble with the stupid cord.
