Thoughts on inviting baby "friends" to first birthday

I know most first birthdays are about family- but  Simon has 4 babies (!) all born the same week as him at school.  Two of them are staff moms like me, and I feel like we are all pretty close (hwoever, I was not invited to any of their 1st birthdays, at least not yet).

For Simon, I think he would LOVE to see his baby friends at his party.   I think I'm just going to invite them and if they come, they come... right?  If they think it's weird they probably won't come, right?

I also think I'm going to invite his two main teachers- which I'd normally never do except I have spent 2+ hours a day in their classroom nursing him through this past year- again, I feel like I know them more than a normal parent/caretaker relationship.

Ok, so I kind of talked myself into it while posting.   Feel free to call me a freak.  And have a good day!

Re: Thoughts on inviting baby "friends" to first birthday

  • The first birthday party was more like a victory party that we survived the first year. We invited everyone and made it a big shindig. So if you need reassurance, my opinion is make it what you want to be.

  • Your LO only turns 1 once....so the more the merrier!  And you are right, give the invite and if they come, they come.  My LO came 5 weeks early on Christmas Eve so it will be mostly family and a few of our friends for her 1st birthday.

  • How about I just call you a Frick?  ;)

Do what you want lady, it'll all sort itself out & the folks that should be there, will be!  Who could resist that adorable S?

  • I invited Addi's friends to her first birthday, and I invited Natalie's friends to her party as well.  I don't see it as being only for "family".
  • Invite them! I was worried about inviting some of my mommy friends because that meant a bunch of 4 & 5 year olds. But, they also see Winter regularly and I wanted to celebrate with them. I'm so glad they came, annnd all the big kids seemed to have a blast as well.

  • I think if you have the room you should go for it.  We opted to keep Natalie's on the smaller side so it's mainly family and friends that we see often.

Can't believe that the babies are all almost a year (or already a year!)

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

We don't have any family nearby so for us, it was all about her friends / kids her age for her first birthday. It was great fun! Go for it!
