Runners - a race question

I'm running a 5K with my step-niece in a couple weeks and was wondering if we'll be able to run together? She's 10. I know they show the results based on age group but do they separate everyone based on age group? I've been "running" for years but this is my first race!

Re: Runners - a race question

  • You two can leap over the finish holding hands. If anything, they might try to separate people based on estimated finish time or pace but not age. What a fun experience for both of you!!

  • Generally, for a 5k, they don't separate people into groups to begin.  They might ask "serious runners" to move to the front, "joggers" in the middle, and "walkers" in the back, and sometimes they ask people with dogs or strollers to move to the back.... but those are generally pretty casual requests in a 5k, not like larger races where there are actual corrals that are sectioned off.  You should be fine to start and run the whole thing together!

    Agreed!  Have a great time!!!!

  • Yep, you totally can. Just pick a spot somewhere in the middle of the pack (or the front for that matter if you're comfy) and have fun!
