s/o sex drive, what's the reason for...

... making us wait 6 weeks?  Is it that the cervix still might not be closed all the way or that they want any tears/stitches to heal completely before sex?  I know it's to prevent infection, I just don't know what they're worried will get infected...

Re: s/o sex drive, what's the reason for...

  • Basically you can introduce bacteria to your uterus that can cause infection.  I'm not going to lie, DH and I got it on this morning before he went to work and on Sunday night.  I was afraid of the episiotomy area to hurt but I guess I have been healing good.  I know I am bad but I could not take it anymore....DH couldn't either.

  • I had a C section, and I still was told to wait six weeks. Despite hours of pushing, baby boy never descended into the birth canal, so I don't have any tears or anything. That leads me to believe it's to let the cervix close. Plus, I'm still bleeding on and off. Can't wait for it to end!

  • On top of what PP said, from what I understand you can get pg really easily immediately after birth. So they make you wait 6weeks to heal and to get back on some form of bc.

  • Some doctors clear you at 4 weeks as long as everything is going well-mine does.  However, Ive never heard of a doc being ok with it before 4 weeks.

    1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.

    Gavin: Born 4/8/11

    Baby #3: due July 10, 2014

  • My OB said not only no sex for 6wks, but no baths, swimming or hot tubs either b/c the cervix is still open & you can end up w/an infection.

Woops!  I've definitely taken a few baths...  I was just told nothing in the vag.  I wasn't told anything about baths.

We had sex for the first time last night. I didn't tear, and I feel great. Plus, I was losing my mind.

And I must say, it was phenom. So much better than pregnant sex.

  • You have an open wound in your ute where the placenta detached.  THAT is what could get infected.

  • Props to you ladies...between being exhausted and taking care of LO, how are you finding the time or energy?  DH and I basically hit the pillow and we're out!  Lol...I'm not at 6 weeks PP though, so I've still got some time!
