Its time again for our weekly check-in. This check-in is for anyone dealing with clotting disorders, or for anyone doing once or twice daily shots of Lovenox, Heparin, Fragmin, Arixtra, etc. (you are also welcome if you are on any other blood thinners - coumadin, aspirin, etc.) This is a place for us to share our frustrations, worries and triumphs. What?s new this week? How is everyone feeling? How are your bruises? Here is a link to our injection tips, https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/47421976.aspx

QOTW: How many doctors do you see and how often?
Re: **Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**
QOTW: Right now, just seeing my regular OB for regular check-ups.
With last week's update(which I joined in on late), I mentioned I was supposed to be switching to heparin this week, since I'm at the 36-week mark. Hematologist gave me the 'scrip Monday, with instructions to stay on the lovenox til he'd had a chance to check with the OB office and make sure they wanted him to monitor it rather than them, etc(saw the MW Tuesday, and she said he's got me on about 4x as much as they normally give if they're the ones keeping an eye on it). Heard back yesterday afternoon--the OB now says I'm to wait until the 38-week mark to switch.
Basically, the reasoning is that everything is doing great at this point, and there's no reason to think Miss Thing is gonna be making an early appearance(last week they checked me and things were softening, but no dilation), so why go through the hassle for longer than necessary, particularly keeping in mind that first pregnancies tend to go a bit late, and that "late" births seem to run in both my and DH's families. So for now, everything is on track for LO to come on her own time, sans intervention(and I've been assured that as long as nothing emergency-like happens, they want me able to be as mobile as possible during labor, since "stuck in bed" tends to lead to clotting.) Yay!
QOTW: My OB practice has three main Drs and a CNM, all of whom I've been alternating between throughout the pregnancy, to make sure I'm familiar with whoever happens to be on call when the baby comes. I just started my weekly appointments with them. Aside from them, there's the hematologist, who I've been seeing every four weeks, though he's got me coming in at two weeks from now on, and the MFM at the hospital, who I've seen once officially. Actual bloodwork is handled by an outside lab, and the monitoring and such is twice weekly at the hospital, with nurses.
Checking in for the first time. My EDD is 11/27. I haven't figured out yet whether they'll put me on Lovanox or Heparin (insurance issues).
But, because of a previous PE, they want me on a prophylactic dose.
I am so happy to see this post ...I don't have to go through this alone :-). I had a positive pregnancy test yesterday making me 4w2d and due Jan 5, 2012. My condition is protein s deficiency causing blood clotting. It took 2 miscarriages for the dr's to find out my condition so I hope this one is a success. The last miscarriage was at 8 weeks. I have been calling all over for a dr's appt ASAP which I explain in a post 10 mins ago before I found this post. I will copy and paste my post below.
I just found out I was preggo yesterday. I'm 4w2d. I've had 2 miscarriages in the last year and a half due to Protein S deficiency. Bc I just moved into a new state I don't have an OB/GYN. I made a few calls yesterday to different dr's offices and explained my situation but I feel like they all brushed my condition to the side. They all pretty much said they will talk to the dr and get back to me to schedule an appt. I'm I going crazy ;-/... should they have made an appt that minute considering my condition. I assumed they would have called me in right away for blood work and go from there but they all said they will call me back or on Monday. I swear if I can't get a dr's appt on Monday, I'm going to draw my own blood and test it. I'm worried Nobody understands unless they have been through it.
Does anyone have protein s deficiency? If so when did you start lovenox, heparin or any other blood thinner? Have you had any successful pregnancies using the medication.
Actually TTC, but they're starting me on Lovenox (this week) during TTC b/c of a history of DVT & 2 PE's. The 2nd PE was submassive & I've been on Coumadin ever since (good times). The current theory for my underlying disorder is lupus anticoagulant & anti-cardiolipin antibodies. Other fun, I'm also AMA!
Essentially I'm an OB nightmare! But I've finally found a great team of a high risk OB, a regular OB, & a wonderful hematologist - the first 3 that only shuddered when I told them my pregnancy aspirations! But, I've always wanted to be a mom & I've just married the man of my dreams, so here we go!
Thanks for the injection refresher tips!
I'm only 7 weeks, I'm still seeing my RE. I have a 2nd u/s with him tomorrow and as long as all is good I will be released to my ob. I have to find a new ob though because of insurance reasons. So now it is only 2.
