My fricken uterus! I was having close contractions all weekend, like 5 minutes apart for a few hours and finally went in last night when they wer 3-5 minutes apart for 3 hours.
Well no progression, cervix is still great, and I was not dehydrated, the ffn was negative but they gave me an iv anyway, it didnt work so they did another bag, still no luck. After 5 hours of contracting every 4-5 minutes they moved me to a room for the night and gave me a dose of procardia and let me eat. That worked after 45 minutes so they let me go home with contractions about 10 minutes apart.
I have been contracting all day. I get an hour or two where they are about 8 minutes apart then an hour or two where they are 4 minutes apart. I was told to just not go in unless they are stronger or in a solid pattern again.
I am so fed up. Anyone else having this happen? I feel like I am going to go into labor and sleep it off instead of going in. (still not on bed rest or meds, just p17 shots)
Re: went to L&D again last night...
Similar situation here. I've been dealing with contractions since 28 weeks, and have been on procardia and bed rest for five weeks now. After two hospital stays, I see the doctor weekly.
This sounds weird, but I've had so many contractions and for so long, that I know what's "normal" for my body, and what's abnormal. At this point, my OB says to come in and see her (or go to L&D on weekends) if things begin to feel abnormal for me.
Yesterday, I had many more contractions than is normal for even me, so I went into the doctor. They prescribed me oral terbutaline to take for my "break-through" contractions. It's worked so far.
I'm further along than you are, and the further I get, the less concerned I am with them. I figure that they'll start to get painful if I'm going into real labor.
Good luck to you!
Hi, first time posting to the boards. My name is Tarah. I'm 33+ weeks pg with our first baby.
I started having alot of contractions at 30 weeks, went into l&d, stopped them with terbutaline, then took nefedipine for a few days (made me feel HORRIBLE), then got switched over to ibuprofen until 32 weeks. I have been on restricted activity, which means basically sit or lay down 95% of the day, no physical exertion at all, and take naps so I don't get tired, which makes them worse. I have never had any cervical changes, so my ob decided I should stop the meds at 32 weeks, come in weekly for cervical length checks, and see what happens. She would have also been fine with me taking meds if I had pressed her, though. So far, so good, things seem to have settled down. I think the restricted activity has been a huge factor in reducing the contractions. I had plans to work up until I delivered, but my body was just getting so tired.
It's hard to know what to do, I feel for you. There's alot of evidence that preterm contractions are over-medicated and over-treated, but who's to know the person that actually needs the treatment to prevent labor. The constant contracting was definitely making me crazy in the head, though.
Thanks for the responses. I saw my ob this morning and am still off bed rest. BUT after work I had to go to the hospital.
I only had to be at work 3 hours and wasn't on my feet too much but they picked up again 3-4 minutes apart and strong. So I went to the hospital and after sitting for a bit they calmed down. They started to pick up after an hour of monitoring so they gave me a shot of terbutaline and they disappeared! 20-25 minutes apart. For a few hours at least, they are back to 10 minutes apart now but I am ok with that.
I guess this is just how it is for me.
