Hi Ladies,
My sweet baby girl, Sophia, was born on April 18th at 28 weeks, 6 days. I had been on strict hospital bed rest for two weeks prior to her birth.
At 27 weeks I had some mild spotting. My husband and I had debated going to the hospital that night, since we had a doctor's appointment the next day. We ended up going to get checked out. We figured that we would get seen and sent home. They did a cervical length only to show it was so short it was not even measurable. Apparently I had been having contractions and not even realizing it. They immediately started me on fluids and magnesium. They gave me steriod shots to help Sophia's lung function.
I was put on strict hospital bed rest. My Fetal Fibernectin test came back positive. The Friday prior to her birth I started having contractions more regularly. I was given indosin to try to stop them. Because Indosin can effect a valve in the baby's heart they were monitoring Sophia and me carefully. They were also doing Biophysicals on her day and night. Her amnionic fluid levels were great, her movement was good, but she lost points for the practice breathing. Sunday night/Monday Morning rolled around and I began having contractions about 5 minutes apart. They gave me breathen and started me back on magnesium and fluids.
When the doctor checked I was too far dilated to stop labor. I ended up having Sophia at 3:06pm on Monday the 18th. She was 3 pounds, 3 ounces and 15 1/8 inches long. She was immediately taken to NICU. She had a terrible infection and was started on two different antibiotics. They did a spinal tap (which was a little bloody). They were concerned about a bleed in the brain and did a cranial ultrasound. There was not a bleed. She was on a breathing tube for 24hours, then nasal oxygen for one week. Her bilirubin was elevated and she was put on the bililight.
They heard a little heart murmur on the echo and upon further evaluation they determined that she had a PDA (patent ductus arteriosus). The valve we were making sure stayed open while I was on Indosin, stayed open after birth instead of closing. The pediatric cardiologist said it was a pretty big opening. She was given Indosin to try to close it. The medicine worked and the PDA is closed.
She had been having drainage from the eye for a few days and they finally cultured it. It was an infection and they started her on an eye antibiotic ointment. We could see a big difference by that afternoon.
The doctors did another Spinal Tap this morning. It again came back a little bloody, they believe that it was from the stick itself. We should have preliminary results tomorrow morning. She did have two little heart rate spells yesterday evening. They believe it may have been related to reflux.
Overall my baby girl is doing really well. I'm so proud of her, she is a little fighter!!!

My MARRIED Bio

Wow what a story! It's really similar to mine - my son was born at 26w2d, I was in indocin, his PDA was open, he got a spinal tap (came back normal)...thoughts and prayers and hang in there.
She is beautiful!
I had my DD at 34 weeks I can't even imagine having her at 28 weeks. T&P your way, glad she is doing well.
