Pineapple Question

I have been craving pineapple. I checked online to see which awesome vitamins I'm getting, and was surprised to learn that "fresh pineapple contains Bromelain which can soften the cervix but it is said that it takes large quantities to have any effect" (https://pregnancyglee.com/?p=26).

How much do you think is too much? I'm sure they mean massive quantities, right? I love my pineapple! Don't take my pineapple away! Hah.

  • I've heard pineapple is good for conception but nothing about while you are pregnant. I think you're fine....

  • I've been craving pinnapple and eating it often too!  I even cut up a fresh one the other day.  I didn't eat it all alone, but I still had quite a bit.  OopsIndifferent
  • Some people use pineapple as a natural induction method, but we're talking serious quantities of pineapple, like several entire pineapples in a day.  Plus bromelain is most concentrated in the core, so when using it to help either with implantation or for induction, you actually eat the core along with the fruit.  I think you're fine.

I hope it isn't too bad. I've been eating pineapple to help with m/s. It seems to work better than anything else I've tried eating to help for some reason.
  • Don't make me break out my flame-thrower!  It's pineapple, for crying out loud.  Eat as much of it as you want!
  • Sheesh!  I had a major pineapple kick about two weeks ago!!  I'm sure we could find something wrong with almost everything we eat!

This. It really is fine, but if you're concerned don't eat the core. It's nasty anyway (trust me, I know ;)).

  • When DD was almost 2 weeks overdue, I tried (almost) every old wives' tale I could think of to get her going.  That included pineapple.  It did nothing, and I ended up with a c-section.  I say, enjoy without worry!

  • Ditto pp. You'll be fine. When I was pregnant with DD, I was desperate to go into labor and started trying OWT to get things going...including pineapple. Several a week. Nothing happened.

    Enjoy your fruit :)
