Anyone getting a Sequential Screen, not just NT?

I just had my first part of my Sequential Screen today, but don't get results until after my bloodwork at week 16. It seems like most people are doing the NT scan and get their results right away. Just curious if anyone else was in my boat?

And, I also have to add a little AW: SOOOO amazing seeing the little baby wiggle around on the screen! He/she was putting their hand in their mouth and bouncing all around. I'm so in love!!

Edited: For the title, was unclear before.

The NT scan IS the first part of the sequential screen.  They took the measurement at the neck and did some blood tests now, and will do more blood tests later - the 2nd part of the sequence.

Personally, I'm having a quad screen.  That means for us there are more steps, the first was still the NT scan.

Ooh...well perhaps my doctor's office just doesn't call it that. There was no use of the words "NT scan" in any capacity. And, they give absolutely no results, whereas, everyone else seems to be getting results.

So, perhaps a more clear question would have been - is anyone not getting their NT results until after 16 weeks, like me?

Sorry for being unclear...never done one of these tests before.

  • I went in for the NT scan and we couldn't get the baby to cooperate.  We tried for about an hour.  I opted to do the quad screen at 16 weeks instead of going back for another attempt.  It is just one blood draw though.

Well, I have "preliminary" results.  Meaning, after the NT measurement, they told me that the measurement was low, which is a good sign.  Then the blood test results came back in, and they said they looked good too.  But I don't get my official results until the end.  So I don't have a ratio result yet, but if we were just getting an NT scan we would have.  So I guess the same as you.

I would say, if your Dr was concerned with the NT measurement, you would know.  They would have told you so you could consider a CVS before it was too late to do.  No news at this point, is good news!

That's what I thought too. I think my Dr.'s office policy is just weird. They didn't say anything during the u/s in terms of measurements, but when I walked over to the lab for my blood work I peaked at the paperwork she gave be to bring (it was literally right there in my face for me to read) and it said the measurement was 2...which Dr. Google seems to think falls into the normal range. So, I'm not too stressed at this point!

  • Yes, I am technically getting the sequential screen, although I still call it the NT scan.  I had the u/s this morning, and the tech told me the measurements and said everything looked good.  My doctor will call if she sees anything abnormal on the u/s.  I should have results from the blood work within a week.

I don't know why you'd need to wait until after the 16w blood work to get results from the first portion of the screening.

I know, me neither... that's why I was curious if anyone else was in the same position. Weird!

Thanks for the responses guys... I knew the two tests sounded very similar, so that clears up my confusion on the actual test part anyway - considering they're basically the same thing. ;)

My doc's office is just like yours.  I am doing the sequential screening, but I just called the scan and first bloodwork the NT scan.

I don't get the results until around 16 weeks either, because I have to go back for bloodwork 4 weeks after the scan and first bloodwork.  They analyze it, and then give me a "risk" number, I suppose.

No worries though, because I know the NT measurement, so I guess I consider that result to be preliminary, and good news.

Anyone that is getting the sequential scan won't get their final results until after the second blood draw...and this is why so many people decline this and just get the NT scan/first trimester screening (it gives you immediate results, and they are good, but sequential screening is more accurate).

  • I'm getting what the perinatologist called integrated screening- which I assume is the same as the sequential screening.  Had a nt-scan and some bloodwork drawn today.  Go back at 16 weeks for another ultrasound and more bloodwork.  He said I will get the results a few days after my 16 week bloodwork.

  • I also had the first part of the sequential screening: u/s and blood work. At first they told us nothing, then we asked and she said our measurements were good. I just reread my paperwork over the weekend because I was wondering how everyone else had results already. My doctor works like yours... no results until after the 2nd blood test, which is at 16 weeks. BUT if you're initial NT measurements weren't good, then they would probably tell you so you could meet with a genetics counselor and consider additional testing. Just like everyone says, no news is good news.

Thanks you -- Glad to hear it's not just me. I will definitely go by the "No news" theory for now! :)

  • Thanks everyone!!  I go a week from tomorrow for my NT scan (sequential screen).  Mine is a 2 part--the first part is an u/s and blood work.  That is to be done between 11 and 13 weeks.  The 2nd part is blood work and that is around 16 weeks.  I was wondering if I was going to get any information at the first one or have to wait...this helped.

     Congrats to all!

  • I am getting the sequential screen as well. Had the first part (NT scan and labs) done at 11 weeks and got vague preliminary results. The tech just the NT scan was normal, and the doctor said there was not red flags with my labs and scan but that we need to do the second part for my conclusive results!
