NAPR - Sell me on chiropractor

I have seen massage therapists before, but I am thinking it might be worth my while to see a chiropractor. I never have before.

Not sure if it is important, but I have lower back pain, from an old injury, and upper shoulder pain from working at a computer. Now my little man is a healthy 13lbs and I get hot spots in my back carrying and wrapping him.

I know there are a few ladies here that have seen chiros... tell me about your experiences please.

TIA Big Smile

  • Actually, I would recommend a rolfer, if you can find one in your area. I had a lower back injury and dealt with the constant pain until my hip, knee and foot started bothering me as a result of compensating for my back. The rolfing helped immensely and I have a pretty normal life in relation to my back now. I was even able to wear DD successfully until she was about 2 + 1/2, something I thought I wouldn't be able to ever do at all given my previous back injury.

I initially saw my rolfer for back in 2007 for the back stuff and am still feeling great there. I recently went back to her due to carpal tunnel and once again, my body feels so much better. I had tried an accupuncturist for the carpal tunnel first and that relieved the discomfort somewhat, but didn't radically improve things the way rolfing did. I am a true rolfing believer. Google rolfing for more info about what it entails.

  • Interesting... but there aren't any in my area... (I am in Newfoundland... had to google rolfing itself!) I am glad it helped you! Hopefully I can find something.

I can wear J much better than carrying him, but he doesn't transition well from wrap to sleeping elsewhere, so wearing him down isn't great. And my wrapping techniques are still a WIP, so I can't wear him for much more than an hour.

  • I had lower back injuries that I was getting steroid injections for. I had to stop while I was pregnant and saw the chiro until I was about 5 months because my pain magically went away. The traction table to stretch and open my spine helped immensely as well as the exercise regime they set me up on. I was extremely skeptical and now I am a total believer. I went from taking 6+ pain pills a day to walking and moving normally. I am still pain free and it's been almost a year.

  • I love my chiropractor.  I was really unsure about going to one.  I broke my tailbone in labor with DS (ouch) and they can take up to a year to heal.  It was really painful around the 3 month mark.  I could barely walk.  My OB suggested chiropractic care because there was nothing they could do, other than put me on drugs.

3 chiro visits later, I felt perfect.  My whole lower back had gone out of alignment trying to compensate, which ended up causing more pain than the original injury.

I am a total believer.  It's now been 8 months and I'm still pain-free (except for the time I fell on my tush on the pavement - ow).
