Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Could this be AF?

I am 6 weeks post m/c (natural).  I started bleeding around 9/20, and the heavy bleeding stopped around 10/11. I have had some on and off spotting since then, but nothing really heavy.  On Saturday night, I started bleeding very heavily and it has continued since then.

It seems like it could be AF, but I am not sure this is possible because of my beta levels.  My last result is from 10/24 and my betas were still 77.  I am waiting on a call back for my results from 10/31.

I thought you don't ovulate until betas are close to zero, which they weren't 2 weeks ago.  But if this isn't AF I am going to be very disappointed that after 6 weeks I am still bleeding due to this m/c.

Any thoughts?

Re: Could this be AF?

  • You are probably not going to like my opinion, but I am guessing that it is not AF.  I too had thought that I was having her when my levels were 20, but I actually passed some tissue around then which makes sense.  From everything I have read and heard -- you have to be at zero before she comes.  I know how much it sucks....sorry this is dragging on for you.  Make sure you let your doctor know of your bleeding pattern so they can assess whether or not to intervene.

  • I would certainly get your levels checked ASAP. to me it sounds like AF - but with the natural m/c you just don't know if you are "done" (my first m/c was natural -- My AF returned after 4 weeks post m/c, and my last beta before AF arrived was 12. AT that point my MD said that was close enough to zero to be considered zero, and if AF didn't arrive within 2 weeks, for me to take pg test. I wish you the best.
m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks). and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers). IUI#1 and #2: BFNs Super lucky to be buddies with Peetie. Our out of nowhere, surprise DD born 5/29/2011
  • I figured that might be the case.  I am going to ask my doctor when she calls me today with my newest beta levels to see what she thinks.

    Thanks again for your help.
