who else hates daylight savings?

I hate it. DS was up at 5:30 AM this morning, and is so off kilter that it is now 1 PM and he is showing no signs of sleeping - he is literally bouncing off the rails of his crib.

Even if he does sleep., by the time he gets up we won't be able to go to the park since sunset is basically 4:30 now..Boo - I am going to start a petition to have MA join Indiana and Arizona and do away with daylight savings.

Re: who else hates daylight savings?

  • Me.

5:30 is DDs normal wake-up time.  This morning - 4 AM.

  • Daylight saving time just ENDED. You hate regular time, not daylight saving time. You are going to have to petition God to get that changed.  Good Luck.
  • Forgive my semantic error. I hate the principal of arbitrarily changing the clock twice a year - an antiquated idea that was really only necessary in WWII.

  • Me! My girls were up at 4:45 this morning. We do CIO so we were letting DD#2 cry that early only to have her wake up DD#1. DD#1 then started saying "Mommy. Calli's crying. Come get Calli, Mommy. Calli, be quiet. Calli, go to sleep." Thankfully it didn't last long, but they were still both up by 6:15. The worst part for us, though, is the evenings. DH only gets a couple hours a day with them anyway and now that it's dark so early he can't take them outside to play or anything. He usually takes them out while I finish fixing dinner and they love that Daddy Time.
  • Indiana is currently suffering with you, LOL.  We no longer don't change time.  We are on fast time with all the rest of yall.  Ha!

  • Elise, always charming.

DS was up at 5:30 today, too.  DH got up and went to the gym, and then I went running when he got home.  All before 7.  Blech.  He's finishing his lunch and starting to unwind for, what I hope to be, nap time.  VERY soon.  I need a break!

  • whatever it is...I hate it!

  • I.hate.it. Always have. The reasons for the time change are so old and outdated. Has nothing to do w/ how our society functions. It takes me weeks to get used to it. It is so irritating.

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
  • While I'm petitioning God I think I'll ask him to give Elise a sense of humor.  Yes, we hate it too, as you know!
  • I'm lucky in that DD re-adjusted herself perfectly last night and today for her nap, and Monday morning wasn't even that bad either.  I just think that DST is pointless.  I understand the whole thing about the farmers/daylight hours and all....but I still think it's stupid.
  • I'll totally sign the petition!?

Just another example of whining about things you don't know the first thing about. If you are going to *** about stuff, you should know what you are talking about. It gets dark earlier in the fall/winter North America. It always has. It has nothing to do with daylight saving time.

That should read IN North America.

  • Hate it.  Jack has just started regularly "sleeping in" until 6:45 or so and now he's back up at the asscrack of dawn.  So annoying.
  • Elise, please.  Obviously both Devon and I know that there are fewer hours of daylight in the fall/winter in North America regardless of what the clock says.  It was clear in the OP she was complaining about the arbitrary changing of the clock so the kids get up at 5 am instead of 6 am not the actual number of hours the sun is up.  I know it is dark out there, but lighten up! :)
  • Here's what you all should do - go ROGUE and just stay on DST instead of going back to standard time.

Where I grew up (in Indiana) we changed time, but the rest of the state did not.  We were considered the three rogue counties, LOL.  People just set their clock to whatever worked for them.  If they worked in Kentucky, they engaged in DST and changing time.  If not, they referred to everyone who did do that as on fast time, and they were on slow time.  Funny stuff.

  • Elise, get a grip.

eclaires - I am all for going rogue (dare I say, be a Maverick?). Maybe we will just be a rogue household. I'll see if I can get DH on board :)

  • What do you know?  Some people can make daylight savings time dramatic.

    Hilarious.

  • Me!  I don't see the point of it anymore.  Wasn't it done back in the day so farmers had more daylight time to tend to the crops?  Something like that?  Or so that less electricity was used during the day time?  It's just not necessary now.

  • I think they recently lengthened the time we are on DST to help with energy costs - used to change in October, now it changes in November.  I guess I don't know why we don't stay on it year round?  Oh well, whatever.

Devon, you could totally be a Maverick.  And if you get your H on board, you could be a Maverick-y household and be super rogue.  LOL.

Ok, now I am just waiting for someone to come in this post to tell us it is technically daylight saving time, not daylight savings.  A pox on all of you who add the extra S!  It is SUPER important to not do so.  lmao.
