I'm planning on delivering at Brandon Regional, but I've heard a few not-so-good things about them. Does anyone have their two cents to share about BR? It's the closest hospital to my home and I can't imagine driving up to TGH or USF at my first sign of labor. Any thoughts??
Re: Brandon Regional?
I'm planning to deliver at Brandon Regional also. It is the closest to my house and my mom works as a RN there. I've heard great things about the new Baby suites and horrible things about the ER. The Nurse or MA who took my blood in the ER a couple years ago was absolutely horrible.
The only "bad" thing I've heard from people about the Baby Suites is that they only allow so many people in the room while other hospitals allow more. I'm not sure if they're talking about during delivery or before/after. HTH!
I have a friend who had a bad experience at Brandon. She had past problems with kidney stones following her pregnancy over a year ago, and one day she got another without warning. I went with her to the ER and the nurses were extremely rude. She was in her own room and they took their happy time even coming in to address the problem, so while she was crying/sometimes screaming in pain, the nurses came in and told her that she needed to stop making noise. Stop CRYING from pain while in the ER.... I wanted to punch the nurse in the face.
They also did a horrible job helping her with the kidney stone. They did some sort of test and told her to go home with pain meds and just pass it naturally. Well, a day or two later she's back in the hospital and they find out that its so big that she needs surgery. The poor girl sat around for days because the ER dr was too inept to see this to begin with.
That being said, Brandon is close to my house and I haven't heard anything bad other than their ER. I am also self-pay so I need to go there and find out more about their discounted rates. Does anyone know anything about their semi-private rooms and if they are nice? The discount only applies to semi-private apparently.
