Birthmarks?

Do birthmarks change color?  Rory has a red place on her eyelid that's been there since she was born and when she's tired, it gets more red.  There's nothing really there- no spots or cuts or anything- it's just a little more red than the rest of her face.

Re: Birthmarks?

  • Google "stork bite"... I found this on wikipedia for you:

Stork bites occur in about one third of all newborns. A stork bite is due to a stretching (dilation) of certain blood vessels. It may become darker when the child cries or room temperature changes. It may fade when you push on it.

  • DS has a huge stork bite on the back of his head and neck but he also has a cluster of blood vessels on his forehead between his two eyes. I can't remember the medical name but it will never go away. It's really light unless he's upset and as he ages it will only be seen when he's upset or lies. Every doctor has said when they saw it that he won't be able to play poker.

  • My DS #1 was born with a stork bite on the back of his neck and "angel kisses" on his eyelids.  He's 2.5 now and the angel kisses are gone, but the stork bite is still visible through his hair.

#2 has the normal stork bite on the back of his neck, but his angel kisses are on his forehead between his eyes and on his nose.  They are visible when he's calm, but get even darker when he's crying.  I've been told that they will fade, we'll see!

  • I think it might be a small angel kiss.  That's what it looks like more than a stork bite.  We have a doctor's appt. on Wed so I'll ask the doctor then too.

  • all my kids were born with them.  they range from forehead, nose, eyes, lips, back of neck, and down the back.  50% of all babies are born with them.  see the close up pic below of LO.  she has them all over her face.  they generally fade by around age one, but they won't fade 100%.  my DH has them too.  they do get more vibrant if he gets hot or really angry.  he jokes with his employees telling them, if you ever see this mark on my forehead turn bright red, run away very fast!
