Pregnant after a Loss

When are you packing?

I had a mini-panic attack last night about everything that still has to be done before LO arrives.

One of the things DH and I talked about was packing our hospital bag.  At what point did you/will you pack this?

Re: When are you packing?

  • I started packing at 35 weeks, but we honestly didn't finish until the night we went into L&D.

  • With DD, I had my bag packed at 37 weeks, except for obvious things like glasses that can't be packed.  But I had a list on top of the bag with the things I would have to grab at the last minute- glasses, camera, etc.  The bag sat there for another 4 weeks.  Big Smile
  • I'm going to start making a list of things to pack this week and then probably start putting the bag together next week.

  • I think 36w is a good time for a first time mom to pack, any earlier is a little overzealous, unless you've had indication you may deliver early.

I myself and my bionic cervix will probably not pack until the night before my scheduled c/s at 39w, unless I have reason to do otherwise.

  • With DS I never packed b/c he came early unexpectedly! We went to the hospital for pre-admit work and we were admitted. DH had to go home and throw things together for me. This go round I'll be more prepared. I'd probably pack at 35 weeks since my DS came at 37.

  • I considered doing it this past weekend, then realized that If i did that I would be getting ahead of myself and having it packed would just make things go by soooo much slower. So im going to wait a bit..

  • In my childbirth class last week the MW suggested having the bag packed and in the car around 35 wks just in case you go early.  She also suggested the same thing with the carseat.  That's probably when we'll do everything.  I really don't see a need to pack any earlier.

I plan on having my bag packed by the end of this coming weekend.  Besides being high risk and there's a big chance of induction between 35-37 weeks, I am also a planner, and need to have things done!

  • I figure I'll probably start getting it together around 35 weeks.  We'll be installing the car seat/bases this week and get it inspected at the police station.

  • Unless I get an indication that my body or my dr has other plans for me, I'll start packing at around 36w.

I don't think that much needs to go into it...an nursing tank, comfortable bottoms, change of underwear, a charger, a book, and outfit for coming home.

You should pack him as wellStick out tongue Let him sit in a bag for 12+ weeks! (Just so people don't think I am being mean this is directed to the perfect FHs who have sailed through their pregnancies, nurseries completed at 15w, bag packed at 28w, filled with everything but the kitchen sink, not people who have reason to be ready early)

  • We packed last weekend (at 36w), but there are still things that need to be packed that we have to wait until the last minute to do (makdup bag, etc. things we use everyday).  It only took us a half hour for both of us to pack so I wouldn't stress about it!!!

  • I just packed my bag last night, so 37 weeks. We actually put it in the back of my vehicle since I'm working right up until I pop so that way it's always with me. There's also a very short list of last minute things to grab that can't be packed yet taped next to our front door. I think we're installing the car seat and bases tonight, weather permittng.

On Sat we have our birth class, so after that I will start putting a list together.  This will give me a chance to start buying things I still need, such as nursing bras/tanks, etc.  My guess is that I will start packing around 35 weeks.
