Warming Bottles....

Hey everyone! For those of you who have to use bottles... how do you warm them when you are on the go? For instance in a restaurant or anything like that? Im a new first time mommy.. and currently I feel like I have no clue how to go anywhere with DD because I have to stand in the bathroom sink and run hot water for what seems like a hundred years to get her bottle to a barely warm state!!

HELP!

Re: Warming Bottles....

  • If we are in a restaurant, I ask our server for a cup of hot water and I sit the bottle in the cup to warm it. Otherwise I just run it under hot water. Whenever we do take a bottle most of the time it is room temp because I will pump right before we leave.

  • This exact reason is why I never wanted to warm LO's bottle to begin with, but my mom insisted.  When I'm out, I either:  1.  Ask the restaurant for a cup with hot water (this is how we warm our bottle at home), 2.  Give the room temperature bottle to LO as is, 3.  Warm the bottle before leaving the house and put it into the insulated pouch in my diaper bag.  When I give it to LO it is still usually warm.

I know they sell portable bottle warmers for the car, although one of my friends says they don't work well at all.

Sometimes I will give LO a room temp bottle at home to keep her used to not always having a warm bottle incase the situation arises when I'm out.  It would be awful if she rejected it because it wasn't warm.

  • My LO will take it cold. Not right out of the fridge cold but not warmed up either.

Mine does too.  I have given her warmed bottles as well as room temp bottles.  That way the temp will never be an issue when I'm out.

We had one for DD#1 & it didnt work...don't waste your $$!

Ask for a cup of hot water. Diaper bags with the insulated bottle pocket are great too!

Ask for a mug of hot water.

Or try giving it to her cold. Many babies have no issues with this. I'd try it at home first to be sure though.

This. I never warmed a bottle and DD takes them at room temp.

  • Thanks everyone.. heres another part to the question though... what if its formula. I do pump and give her that.. but I am currently having to supplment.. and I know that once you take the formula out of the fridge you are supposed to discard after an hour...

I didnt think that LOs would take formula cold.. so maybe I will have to try it at home like someone suggested and see what happens. I have just heard that it can cause tummy trouble for them to take cold!!

  • The tummy trouble thing is a myth.  I give bottles, both breastmilk and formula, at room temp.  I usually warm it at night to get her settled.  I've also given her a bottle right out of the fridge before when she was screaming for her food NOW.  No problems with any temps or switching between them.  For formula on the go, we get those samples of ready-made bottles from the pediatrician and the OB - now we have a million so we take those with us.  They are always at room temp until you pop the lid.  We also have powder formula and our Tommee Tippee bottles came with little containers for pre-measured formula powder that sits right inside the bottle.  You fill the bottle with water before you leave and then it warms up before you mix it and feed.

  • My DS will take formula at room temp, but it seems to go down better when it is warmed  I carry a 18oz thermos of warm water in his diaper bag to make his bottes when we are not at home.

  • I always use room temp.  Powder is much easier when you're on the go...you just mix it as needed and you don't need to worry about it being out too long.
