NBR Good thoughts please

Our 15 year old Golden has had a rough couple of weeks.  It started out when the inlaws were visiting my husband and FIL thought it would be a good idea to let her run the fence line for 30 chasing a stray dog. She has bad hips and was in a lot of pain, called the vet and got the go ahead to give her some pain meds.  FF to 2 weeks ago, I basically drugged the poor dog and now her stomach is all messed up.  She doesn't really want to eat has had some other tummy issues.  I took her to the vet today and had a full blood panel done on her ( everything looks good) and had acupunture done to help with the pain and her hips.  I just took her out the bathroom and she is very wobbly and sort of fell over and is now sleeping.  I called the vet again ( they a 24hr vet) and they said sometimes when the pain is gone they are more sleepy and relaxed and she is most likely ok.

I could really use some good thoughts, I hate to see her suffer and not be able to help her.

Thanks

  • I'm so sorry, that is so hard. Can I ask what sort of joint supplements you use for her to help alleviate discomfort? I have a couple non-Rx ones I really like, particularly one called DGP. It's an herbal anti inflammatory and in an independent study by the Wole Dog Journal every single dog taking it showed improvement if some degree of another. I have had many clients see great results as well, particularly when used in combination with a good glucosamine/chondroitin supplement (I like Liquid Health Level 5000 and Connectin brands.) Just some ideas for you. Please keep us posted on your furbaby!

  • Pets at that age have good and bad days. If her tummy is trying to settle after processing the pain meds, try feeding her easy to digest foods like rice or plain mashed potatoes. Also, an easy to digest diet overall will make going potty easier on her and less strain when trying to go. We have a 14 year old, that we worry about a lot. Sending you lots of good thoughts. Stay happy and positive for her.

  • It's so hard to see pets (or any animals) suffer!  I really hope she perks up soon.  And I hope some of the advice above is helpful.
