Carpal Tunnel

I'm having a really difficult time. I have pregnancy induced carpal tunnel and it is driving me crazy. It's worse at night and I can't sleep and am constantly exhausted. Braces don't seem to help and the doctor said there isn't much I can do besides them but I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this or if anyone has any tricks to help. I'm also finding my feet are falling asleep randomly too. Doctor says it's perfectly normal but it's so annoying!!!

help!

Re: Carpal Tunnel

  • I feel your pain... Literally. I had it SO bad with DS... Not so much this pregnancy, but its there.
I ended up wearing the braces at night and as much during the day that I could stand.. The more I wore them, the more it seemed to help. Nothing else really helped.. It did go away after birth but not right away. My friend is a medical massage therapist and did some massages that helped... Know anyone that could help? Good luck. It is so annoying and uncomfortable.

I know IAM4UK had it when she had Katie.

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel when I was 20.  At the time I was doing a TON of computer work.  Over time, I retrained how I went about using the computer/typing, etc... and that really helped.  Basically, I taught myself to not bend my wrists upward but rather type/use a mouse with my fingers hanging downward.  I hope that makes sense.  I wore braces at night which also helped.  I will tell you that I rarely have CT pain now just because I changed how I type/use a computer.

And the other thing that really helped was good neck massages- the nerve that goes to your wrists starts in your neck and shoulder region.  So if that has increased blood flow, that does help.

Thanks. I think tihs is a pretty valid excuse to get a good neck massage from my hubby this evening!

  • I feel your pain! I had it starting with week 16 of my pregnancy! It is one of those symptoms no one ever tells you about!

What you can hopefully look forward to: My carpal tunnel was GONE the same day DS was born! I had to wear wrist braces and that didn't really even help.

  • I had it pretty bad with DD.  I woke up with two fingers totally locked in place every morning from it.  As soon as I had DD though it magically disappeared. Unfortunately nothing really helped it during pregnancy.
