Are we insane for considering taking a 2 month old to Disney? We came across a killer travel deal and we may take it providing we can find some discount Disney park tickets.
So tell me about Disney with babies. Are there nursing stations? Are the bathrooms clean? (Enough, not expecting a miracle). Enough rides for Keira to go on? Is it going to be a nightmare taking her, a newborn in the FL heat and an 8 yr old who will not want to stay in kiddy land the whole time?
Give it to me!
Re: Disney: Give me the nitty gritty
I don't feel like typing it all out, but next time I see you I'll tell you. We could not find any discount tickets. We went with 12 people ages 1-66. It was quite the adventure, we stayed for 7 days.
*ETA: I wouldn't go with a newborn but Keira and Chloe would enjoy it, Magic Kingdom would be the best park for both of them because they can both pretty much do all the rides.
I personally would probably not do Disney with a newborn. We took Holly at 10 mos, which was challenging enough just from a general baby care standpoint, but we were able to take her lots of rides, etc, at even that age. We were very nervous about taking a baby there, but it worked out just fine. We also had my IL's to sit out with her when DH and I wanted to go on big rides that she couldn't ride--that was a big part of why we decided to go.. Well, and that they were paying. LOL.
But with a newborn (and no other help), one parent would have to be sitting out with her for everything, including the kiddie rides (unless you chose to bring her on stuff, which I don't think I'd do with a baby that young, if you're even allowed to). That being said, people definitely do it. I saw plenty of small babies there, and obviously, people just deal. When I go to a amusement park, I want to be participating in stuff, not sitting everything out, so I think that's why I personally wouldn't bring a tiny baby.
There are nursing rooms, or baby care centers, in each park, but I'm pretty sure there is only one in each park. So if you weren't comfortable NIP, you'd have to backtrack to the baby care center each time she needed to nurse. The bathrooms in Disney IMO are clean, as far as theme parks or other places where thousands of people use them go, anyway. But I wouldn't call them spotless. Everything's a little nicer and cleaner at Disney, I think.
All that being said, if you have just a fantastic deal that you can't pass up, I'd say go for it. Obviously, Disney is like the most family friend place on earth, so I'm sure you'd figure out how to work it out. GL!
I also wanted to add to what Hughes said. If you are going with just you and DH, one of you would have to stay with the baby, and then who would ride/sit next to Keira and Chloe on the ride? Also, they do not allow strollers in line or at any shows, so you would need to wear Callie or be prepared to take her in and out of the stroller.
You could for sure do it, but would you enjoy it? Probably not, not unless you had another set of hands there to help you. We went with my parents and sisters and even with extra help, it was hard!
We were there for only 2 days, but took Ella (2 yrs old), Aydin (10 yrs old), and Zachary (4 months). We scored free tickets b/c future SIL works for Animal Kindgom and we started out there, but then went to Magic Kingdom. It was ok - it was hard balancing Aydin's want to get out of Fantansyland with Ella's wanting to ride Dumbo for the 2nd time! Zachary was awesome - he either rode in the stroller or I carried him in my carrier. It was very hot when we were there, but I don't think it was too bad. There is a nice child's center that had a private nursing room, changing table and AC! I ony was there once in the afternoon to cool down. The other times - I just nursed him wherever I could with a cover (in Monsters Inc was nice, cool, and dark). I don't think you're crazy, but be prepared for lines, heat, kiddo meltdowns, and to spend a lot of $$ on water, food, ice cream, and Mickey ears! If you have any specific questions - let me know. Everything is still fresh in my mind.
One thing I would add - make sure the adults outnumber the kids. We went with BIL / future SIL and it was nice that BIL could take Aydin to a bigger ride while we went somewhere else with the smaller kids. If it weren't for that - we probably would have passed on the free tickets (or found a babysitter) so DH and I could go by ourselves:)
