first pregnancy..serious pelvic pain??

Hi everyone! I will be 20 weeks on Mon, but for the past 3 weeks, I have had HORRIBLE pelvic pain!! It feels like someone has kicked me square in my crotch. Not a muscle pain, but a bone pain. It is so bad after sitting/laying down for a while, I now have a wonderful limp! Someone said that this is from 1)being my first pregnancy and my pelvic bones are moving out and 2) the meds I was on have intensified all my symptoms. Either way...OUCH!! Any one else experiencing this? I see my OB on Wed for my anatomy scan, and I was going to ask him about it then, also.  TIA for any/all input!!!

Thanks Sunflower!!! I feel a little silly now, but I guess that could be it? Luckily I am not as bad a WomanCake seems to be. And I read the article, and the *only* symptom I have is the crotch pain. I looked up Pelvic Girdle Pain a few weeks ago, but I was just wondering if anyone other than a dictionary could fill me in. :)
  • You;re welcome! And I wish I could help more, but I have no experience with that sorta pain. I just recognized (a little) similar symptoms between you and WomanCake. Def talk to your OB as they will have  the best answers for you. See if you can get in like Monday or something if your next check up is far out. Pain is no fun ever, but especially not when you are growing a baby!

  • When mine first started, it was just the pubic pain, and it felt just like someone had kicked me in the crotch.  I talked to my midwife about it, and she said it was totally normal--that it was just my pubic bone shifting and the joints loosening, etc.  So I do think it's a pretty common (but unpleasant) pregnancy symptom.  And just because you're having it, I don't think that means yours will develop into what mine has.  I've been reading a ton today, and not everyone who has pubic/pelvic pain gets to the point I'm at right now.  So unless it gets really severe, or the pain starts radiating to other parts of your body, I'd say it's probably nothing to worry about.  You could definitely bring it up to your doctor though if you're in a lot of discomfort.  I haven't tried it yet, but some people have actually said putting ice packs on the area seems to help.  Hope you feel better soon!

ETA: A lot of the reading I've done today has suggested that chiropractic care may help with this.  It doesn't work for everyone, but it may give you some relief.

  • The first time I read this I totally missed you saying your a/s is wednesday. Just ask your OB then, I am sure everything is okie doke! Try ice packs, like WomanCake said and maybe some rest! :D

    Feel better! (both of you!)

  • I've been dealing with this since 18 weeks.  It is incredibly painful and annoying.  My doctor said it was normal and that I could take Tylenol every day if I needed to (I'm not though...Only when pain is REALLY bad).  She also suggested that I get a belly bad maternity support wrap.  I got one yesterday and notice a small difference, but may look into chiropractic options too.  It has made me waddle, ache and makes me feel terrible most of the day.  I hope you start to feel better and it doesn't get worse!

  • Actually the Tylenol thing is a good point...If it works to help take away the pain it is probably NOT the pubic seperation. My Perinatologist explained all of it to me...but basically IB is the only thing that really helps this type of pain...I have found that to be very true.

Thanks for all the advice, ladies!! I feel better knowing I am not alone! I just feel so silly waddling around work and wanting to just scream "Leave me alone!! My crotch hurts!!!" I am guessing my boss wouldn't approve of that! :P

Hopefully we will all be better soon and find something to help with this aggravating symptom!! I will check on the Chiropractor and see if that helps!!

    Thanks again!!
