So, MH and I are having a horrible time trying to find a boys name we both like. His hands down favorite name for our (potential) baby boy is Rocco. (We are team green, hence the "potential"). And this is one of the only things he has had a very strong opinion on.
Let me start by saying that there are no boys names that I am in love with. I don't dislike Rocco and I even think it's cute. But, I just don't know if I like it for *my* kid. I wouldn't side-eye it on someone else's child, but I have never encountered a real-life Rocco and I don't want our son to be ridiculed or hate us when he's a grown man named Rocco.
We are not sharing names IRL, so I'm looking for some honest opinions on this before I let it onto the short list. Our last name is very uncommon (in the US) and very Italian. TIA!
Please share your opinions
Re: Name Opinions - don't hold back!
I dont love it.... I have heard names I dislike a lot more and I think it is fine, but just fine. I agree, I dont think I have ever meet a real life Rocco, but I dont think I would side-eye it for someone else's child either.
Since you are asking for honest opinions, I don't like it. I just don't see it translating very well to an adult. It is cute for a child, but I'm still not a fan.
But if it's the only name you like and can agree on, then you should use it regardless of what I or anyone else says about it.
Rocco.....cute for a little boy.
Buuuuut....I think the only job a man could get named Rocco is repossessing cars or being a bouncer at a club.
Meet Rocco:

well rocco here where i live, is a name associated with italian, guido-like mobsters..
cute but in my opinion stereotypical
This is awesome! And sums up my exact misgivings on the name! Thanks for everyone's opinions - you've all backed up my concerns. Cute for a little boy on the playground, a little strange for a grown-up who wants/needs a serious name. I just needed a little reassurance that I wasn't alone in my thoughts.
Sorry DH - Rocco is officially vetoed!
Not trying to offend you... but I really hate it.
Sorry
I wonder if you could find a more grown-up name, like Richard, and use Rocco as a nickname?
Like some PPs, I don't hate it, but I think it's a great little boy name as opposed to a grown man name (i.e. can you picture a lawyer or judge using that name on his court documents?).
I agree, and it makes me think of the weird cartoon Rocko's modern life....
It sounds a bit like a dog name. I am a teacher, and I think your DS would probably get teased.
LOL. I actually worked with a Rocco in Accounting. Cool guy, and smart.
It's NMS but I don't hate it.
I had a friend named Rocco and he was awesome. But he was from Queens and he was totally Italian. Are you Italian? He was REALLY Italian. It worked for him, he also looked Italian. I'd say nay on it. Good luck!
Well, my first thought was, hope they are Italian if they pick that name...then I got to the last paragrah.
All the Rocco's I know (and all are adults) are all Italian, so I don't find it to be a bad name or weird.
If you choose a name that fits your heritage, it will be a bit out of the norm...depending on where you live...but doesn't make it bad. Where I live that would be totally common.
