    Lurking. I should have said SS... but I clicked on "avoiding AF". I breastfed my DD and had the Mirena placed I think at 12 weeks postpartum. They mainly do during AF to avoid placing it during pregnancy (from what I understand). I was still having a little bit of lochia flow at that time, but I had not gotten any periods and I didn't want to have sex because it hurt too much down there thanks to a 3rd degree episiotomy. I definitely wasn't pregnant. They placed it and I didn't menstruate at all while on Mirena. I bled for maybe a day after Mirena was placed and the lochia flow stopped completely.

    My GYN actually prefers to place it during AF because of the hormone levels.  She also mentioned that she finds it easier to place since the cervix is relatively firm during that time and easier to manipulate, but I think that's more of her personal preference.
