LO is EBF and 4 wks old and I just noticed this over the past few days. Its not green and I dont see blood. He is definitely gassy and fussy. He does spit up frequently. Most of what I found suggests a milk sensitivity? Is it possibly normal/a fluke? I will call the pedi but I have a feeling she will just suggest I cut out dairy and see if that helps. Thoughts/experiences? TIA/1ht
Re: Mucus in poop?
Its probably a mild intolerance of some kind. It doesn't necessarily have to be milk though. If you've been eating dairy all along and this just started, look for another cause. I had a similar issue a month or so ago, all of a sudden DS2 had mucusy poop and it really smelled. I had been eating cereal for breakfast basically every morning since I had him so I didn't think it was milk. I realized that I had 2 eggs for breakfast 2 mornings in a row, and that is what triggered it for him. I don't think he necessarily has an egg allergy, but just a sensitivity. I haven't eaten any eggs since, but I've had plenty of foods with egg in them.
Other things that are common allergens are soy and nuts.
Sometimes there's just random mucous. I wouldn't worry about it unless it comes with other symptoms (and I wouldn't count gassy and fussy as that's just pretty typical newborn!) or continues.
