2nd Trimester

Is it normal if the baby stops moving for a day?

I am 22 weeks and I have been feeling increasing movement, lots of distinct kicks, wya beyond the fluttering sensation. last night the baby was having a dance party, but today I haven't felt anything. Nothing has happened, but I'm a little nervous. Is it normal for movement to break a break now and then? When should I be concerned?

I have been pretty active all day (worked and was up on my feet all day long, then came home and did a little gardening and cleaning and took a long walk with DH and the dog) I have noticed he is more active when I'm resting. Could that be it?

  • You won't feel consistent movement until 28 weeks (this is when you will start kick counts)
So even though you have been feeling baby consistently so far, its totally normal to have a day or 2 when you don't feel much... Baby could have flipped, changed positions, etc. So no worries! It's normal.

  • Yes, very normal.
  • If you're active you're baby will move less.  Imagine a baby doing what you did all day, he would be exhausted!  He's just resting from all the activities you did.

  • I think it's normal. I notice LO doesn't move much when I'm active.
  • Completely normal- that's why we don't do kick counts this early.

I read that when the mother is active, the movement lulls the baby to sleep.  When the mother rests, the baby tends to be more active, because nothing is "soothing" him/her.

  • somrthing needs to soothe the midnight dance parties though... I have had two this week! Silly little girl!

  • It's totally normal but if it were me, I would lay down and drink water just to feel the baby move at some point at least once today.

I'm a little paranoid though because one of my close friends stopped feeling movement at 21 weeks for a day and a half and unfortunately, her baby passed away.

I honestly did not type this to scare you, I'm just a better safe than sorry person.  This early on,  as long as you feel him/her once during the day, you'll be fine.

  • I also heard that when you're moving, it rocks the baby to sleep. Though, I've been experiencing the same things too! DD had been going at it for days, and then all of a sudden, nothing. My sister said she's probably going through a growth spurt. I do feel her a few times a day now.
