Bronchitis

I just got back from the Dr. turns out my Easter cold is now full blown bronchitis. He sent me home with a whole bucket full of antibiotics that I'm supposed to take 4x per day. Yikes.

Even though the Dr. said it was fine during pregnancy, I was still thinking about calling the midwife to clear it with them because of the enormous dose. WDYT? Should I clear it with them, or just trust the reg. Doc?

Re: Bronchitis

  • I'd call your MW just to let her know what you are taking.  With infections like bronchitis, it's worse to not treat them.  You need to breathe for baby and you also don't want that infection to spread.  Most doctors are careful what kind of antibiotics they prescribe to pregnant women (look it up, it's likely class B).  Because your MW is so involved in your care right now, it's definitely a good idea to call her.

  • Ty, I did check to make sure it's class B. Normally I wouldn't 2nd guess it, I just freaked a little because I never took such a high dose in my life! So it made me worry a little more bcuz of the baby. I was thinking I was just being paranoid though, thanks for the input, I didn't want to call and be a PITA for no reason haha but my first reaction was also just to run it by them so I'll do that!

  • I agree with running it by them. Not necessarily because you don't trust your doctor, but because it's important for your midwife to be wholly involved in your care, and that would include knowing all the meds you're taking.

  • I'm also dealing with bronchiitis now too. I'm on antibiotics as well. It is definitely no fun being sick, especially while pregnant! I hope you ladies get well soon!
