Went to my monthly checkup, and I got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! Yay!
She then told me my due date had been moved from Oct 31st to Oct 22nd (WEIRD!?) and THEN proceeded to take my blood pressure. She asked me if I was working, which I am (teacher) and then she said "well...if you can't get your blood pressure down I'm taking you off WORK!" I'm like, "well...I'll be OFF work in just two more months...." Apparently that was not reassuring enough.
Well NOW my blood pressure is really high ![]()
She prescribed Trandate....anyone have this?
I haven't told my principal yet, but two other teachers at school are pregnant (due just after me) and their news was NOT well-received so I'm not looking forward to it ![]()
Re: Dr Appt: heartbeat, new due date and high blood pressure :(
You need to make sure you are eating a TON of vitamin K. They have done a few studies showing that eating a diet high in vitamin k helps lower blood pressure. (broccoli, kale, green veggies)
also google the brewer diet.
hope that it gets lower.
You may have been stressed before your appointment. Try showing up early for your appointments and doing slow breathing exercises. Mine was high-ish at my first appointment (normal, but high for me). They must have noticed b/c they asked if I was stressed and I was. I think it was 130/78. Next appointment, I was not nearly as stressed, knowing the baby was OK. I did slow breathing to make sure I wasn't on any level and it was 120/70.
I was an education major for a while and it was surprising to me how many teachers just didn't have kids. It makes sense on a lot of levels since teachers are so incredibly busy. I didn't realize that you had to contend with your principal, etc. Try not to worry about that. Que sera, sera.
Whatever will be, will be.

I would not go on blood pressure medication because of one single BP reading. That is poor practice on your doctor's behalf... What were the numbers?
Did she at least explain why your due date was moved up? If it wasn't due to clerical error or an ultrasound, I would not change the date.

I agree with PP... it's weird that your doctor want to put you on meds from one reading. Has it been high at multiple appointments? When I was pregnant with DS, I had a really high reading at one point. The dr. immediately sent me to L&D to be monitored. It ended up being nothing, but they made sure it was nothing, and never once mentioned going on medication.
As far as the due date goes... idk why they would change it, but they really aren't very accurate period. Every baby is different, and some need to bake for 41 weeks, some need 39. I wouldn't really put too much thought into it.
