Did anyones heartburn get a lot worse?

I know your heartburn is supposed to be worse towards the end but all the sudden mine has gotten way way worse... so bad I can't eat and drink anything without being miserable. It's been like this all day long.... this morning/afternoon I had a lemonade with my DD on the porch and it hasn't gone away since. I've never gotten heartburn from a drink! :(

Anyone notice a change in their heartburn recently? I didn't think it could get this much worse out of nowhere... it's not like the baby is THAT much bigger than she was yesterday or last week even. Hope no one else is having this problem.

I've already taken the maximum dosage of tums allowed in a day. I'm screwed.

  • Go and get yourself some over the counter Zantac or Pepcid. It helped me for a couple months, until my OB had to prescribe me something stronger.  It works really well... I would not suffer any more :)

  • Mine has come roaring in the past day or two as well, oh joy :)  Tums and water helps with mine.  I got it this evening after not eating for a few solid hours (I had only had some water) - that was the worst!!  Luckily tums and a few girl scout cookies solved the dilemma.

  • Mine has been consistently in the evenings for the past couple of weeks but Tums had been working.

Last night I woke up around 3am to horrible heartburn, nausea & started getting sick. All of a sudden many of my symptoms in general seem to be amped up.  I blamed it on the weather, but now I think it has to be hormones going whacky.

  • I have noticed this too - which surprised me since my baby dropped a bit (not all the way though) last week.  A couple nights ago, I literally woke up with a pool of reflux in my mouth.  I'm surprised I didn't mess up the bed!  And the last couple days I've been feeling nauseated during the day not wanting to eat anything.

And like you, this worsening was really sudden.  In fact, I have had no heartburn pretty much the entire pregnancy until now.  I haven't maximize the Tums yet, but I have a feeling I may soon.  I heard to avoid thin liquids (even water can make it worse) when it's happening - and like cold dairy foods, conveniently shakes/ice cream/yogurt/milk has helped some people.  I had some frozen yogurt last night and I think that actually helped me get through the night.

  • I have a short torso, so mine never eased up. I find that a glass of milk REALLY helps.

    Good luck!

  • My heartburn got better for about a week at around 35/36 weeks, and now that I'm 37 weeks, it's not only back but much worse than it was before and seems to be getting even worse by the day.  I've maxed out on tums too, so I'm going to give in and get something stronger (I've been trying to avoid it, but I'm just too miserable now).  On a side note, try to stay away from acidic drinks like lemonade, anything citrus, soda, etc.  I never thought about those things giving me heartburn either, but DH mentioned to me last week that lemonade even gives him heartburn sometimes because it's so acidic...

  • I have always had heartburn, even pp, but it seems to have gotten worse the last few weeks. Zantac seems to help as well as peppermint hard candies.

  • YES.  Mine was miserable between 36 and 38 weeks.
