Re: **sugarplum2**

  • Tuesday night I went into L&D due to high blood pressure and they gave two options - induce or bedrest. We picked bedrest, but Wednesday when I was resting my bp was still high. So I had my normal OB appt yesterday morning and my bp was high once again and she told me she wanted me to induce before my bp became a bigger problem because it would vary from really high to normal really easily.

So we head to L&D, they tell me that all my tests came back negative for pre-e and that I could go home (after I'm already in bed, in a gown, tests run, etc). But they left the decision up to me and DH. We chose to follow through with the induction because of my severe anxiety - I'd be sitting at home and my bp would get high again just from the worrying.

So now I'm 25.5 hours into being here with medicine being inserted into my vagina every 4 hours to make my cervix favorable. I came in hardly at 1cm, and 20 hours later it's finally a loose 1cm. After this dose they'll be putting me on pitocin and get things going because I'm 90% effaced and she's moved down quite a bit. It's been slow going, but things are progressing well finally and she'll be on her way soon enough.

This is completely not what I had expected...  birth plan out the window, but we're excited to finally meet our little Olivia Guadalupe either tonight or tomorrow... we'll see when this little girl gets here!

BONUS.... morphine helped me sleep A LOT last night (though I woke up for the royal wedding and watched it with my nurse!), and everyone here is wonderful. It's been a struggle emotionally to do this, and to know I was making the right decision, but I know now that I did the right thing because my bp has still been fluctuating quite a bit.

Smile Another April mommy coming soon.... I'll let you know when she's here.

  • Thanks for the update!  Sounds like a very long week!  Hope things progress quickly for you once they start the pitocin.  Blessings to you and Olivia!

  • soooo still in the hospital, no baby yet. been here since 11am thursday (pacific time). never really progressed after the miso pills were done, so they started pitocin. i powered thru those horrible contractions for 3 hours; waited for a free midwife to check me (an hour and a half after they said they would) and at that point when nothing had changed (1.5 cm, 90?? percent effaced) i blew up at everyone and had a major panic attack. they brought in the anesthesiologist and gave me the quickest epidural ever (so says the nurse... 6 min total) and i slept for 3 peaceful hours... woke up and they broke my water.

so now we wait. :) this little update just helped me to kill some time (slowwww typing on a blackberry). hopefully i can announce the birth of my little girl tomorrow.
