2nd Trimester

Second time mommies!

For you mothers who are on their second child :) If you were having the opposite sex from the first child the second time around, was your pregnancy different?

Hope that makes sense..

Re: Second time mommies!

  • Anecdotal story: My mom's first pregnancy was easy, some morning sickness in the first trimester, nice small belly, carried high, and had a boy.  Her second pregnancy, she had no sickness, GIANT belly, carrying low, lots of aches and pains and had a girl. Her third pregnancy was identical to her first pregnancy... And she had another girl :P   What sex your baby is has little effect on how your pregnancy is!

  • Yes. This pregnancy is COMPLETELY different.

    With my son-

Craved- Super hot and spicy foods, meat, sour foods
    Aversions- Milk and green olives
Grew- All belly and really low. My thighs a bit, too.
Morning Sickness- Only lasted 6 weeks, and was mild to moderate.
Appearance- Great looking hair and skin.

    With my daughter-to-be-

Craving- SWEETS!, carbs (pastas, breads, cereal), milk
    Aversions- Red meat
Growing-  Up high and spread out. Weight in belly, love handles, and breasts.
Morning Sickness- Lasted 14 weeks and was HORRIBLE.
Appearance- Awful acne and greasy hair.

  • I'm having a girl this time, and things are considerably different. I had morning sickness with both until 18 weeks. With DS, I puked 3-6 times a day for 12 weeks. I couldn't eat meat or dairy, only simple carbs. With this baby, I rarely puked. I just felt awful. I craved proteins. I couldn't and still can't tolerate sugar or carbs. It makes me sick. My sex drive stayed very high with DS. DH is lucky if he gets it twice a month now.

  • YES! Totally different!

With DS: No m/s, craved sweets, carried low, horrible carpal tunnel

With baby girl: Nauseau the entire 1st tri, crave salt, carrying high, face breaking out

FWIW, my SIL who is having baby #3.. her 1st two pregnancies were identical and she has two boys. This pregnancy has been completely different... And she's having another boy. So you never know!!

  • No, my pregnancies have been exactly the same. Rather easy, no morning sickness, some exhaustion in the 1st tri and barely gained any weight so far. The only thing different is I'm carrying this one higher and I can still wear my regular jeans.

  • My pregnancies have been fairly similar, although I've been carrying lower this time around. Girls both times.

  • Total opposite and I'm having a different sex.

However most OWTs pointed DD should have been a boy and this one should have been a girl.

But they were total 180's from each other early on//Second tri has been the same for both and I am carrying just a little lower than last time.

  • During pg#1 baby boy was carried very low in my hips and I could barely walk by wk 26. This time it's a girl and she is carrying high, so I am more pain free even though I still have times when it my hips and back hurt. Much better this time.

  • I'm having the same gender and both pregnancies have been completely different.  I had a very normal and uneventful pregnancy with my first and this one I was throwing up until 22 weeks.  I never got sick with my first.

  • My first trimester was different. I was a lot more nauseous the second time (girl) and had a sensitivity to smell, which I didn't get the first time. The second trimester has been almost identical, down to the weight gain.
  • I had a boy and then a girl and my pregnancies were almost identical.  I had horrible morning sickness with both that lasted the entire pregnancy and I also went into labor 2 weeks early with each of them.  For me there really was no difference.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I am having another boy and this pregnancy has been different, so you never know.
