20 weeks. Last time they had scheduled my appointment for 18 4-5 days and the technician had me reschedule so we won't book any earlier than 20 weeks yet.

18-22 weeks is pretty common. With my last pregnancy, I had it done around 20 weeks, but this time around it's at 19 weeks exactly.

I'm so glad someone posted this because I swear my doctor is on crack or something...
I went in for my monthly appointment on Thursday and I asked about when he schedules the anatomy scan. He started going on about insurance companies and how he has to be careful about u/s so the insurance companies will cover the cost and don't think that I'm having an u/s "just because".
So this is my question, I thought the anatomy scan was routine? So why wouldn't my insurance cover it? If my OB sees a need for it, he schedules the scan at 22-24 weeks (something about being able to see the heart or its fully formed, I don't know, he had me really confused). So he said we would talk about it more at my next appointment at the end of May.
Also, my OB is a D.O. instead of an M.D. and I was wondering if maybe that had something to do with his different way of thinking?

I always thought that if insurance will only cover one u/s, it will always be the anatomy scan. As far as I know, everyone gets an anatomy scan.
I'm sorry, but your OB sounds weird. They usually schedule them between 18-22 weeks. Mine is at 18w5d.
I haven't talked to my regular OB about it (probably will at my appointment on Wed) but when I went to the high risk OB for the NT scan (not because I'm high risk, but he's who does the NT scan around here) and he found out I'm hypothyroid, he wanted to do an extra ultrasound to check that everything is forming correctly. (Apparently this is an issue in women who have uncontrolled hypothyroidism - mine is very tightly controlled, but I'm not going to argue with checking on the baby's development!) Anyway, this is at 20 weeks 3 days.

Some insurance companies are very strange about it. I have excellent insurance, 90% of everything is covered if not completely covered, but they are not covering any ultrasounds. Ridiculous! Unless you are a high risk pregnancy, insurance companies don't see any ultrasounds as routine, even if they are. I don't get it either! We are having it done anyways. The doctor highly suggested it.
18-20 weeks. My monthly appointment just happens to fall at 18w 2 days, so that's when mine will be. My doctor's office does an optional gender scan at 16 weeks for a donation to the march of dimes, so I currently have one of those scheduled as well.
Re: When is the anatomy scan usually done by your dr's office?
My doc does it between 18-22 weeks, with the way my monthly appointment fall I will be getting mine at 19 weeks.
