I my area people say Pop, but I say soda (as does H). I grew up in the midwest (aka pop country) but changed really fast when I moved east for college.

Soda, and if I want to be funny I said "soder," because some people say it that way. If I am ordering at a restaurant, I specify if I want Coke, Sprite, root beer, ginger ale, etc.
I clicked SS because I don't know what people around here call it. (Someone wanna fill me in on what North Carolinians call it?) I pretty much always order a water with lemon, and my husband orders the specific one he wants (root beer, sprite, whatever). Where my family lives in MD it's "soda" where the rest of my family lives (and where I grew up) in MI it's "pop." I use both terms interchangeably.

haha! Wahoo!! Everywhere I've ever been in the South, they've called it pop! But, that isn't very many places.
I haven't been in the south much. I just assumed if I got too far south it would be "coke" and being so far east it might be "soda." I'm such a nerd but you made my day with this tidbit of info. Haha

Basically the same thing for me. I grew up in Indiana and called it Pop. When I moved to Georgia as teenager I learned that everything is referred to as Coke. LOL. This is Coca Cola country after all. I had to stop using the term Pop because I was teased so I started using soda instead. I still caught some flack but not as much as I did when I used Pop.

Exactly. The coke thing occurs for me not when eating out (I just order the drink I want), but more in casual conversation. For example I would say to my husband "hey, will you grab me a coke while you're up?" He would then say "sure...what kind?". Then I would say "Diet Dr. Pepper please".
Re: S/O Pizza & Sub: Clicky Poll
Most people say "pop" around here but for some reason, I say "soda."
When I go to a restaurant, though, I typically ask for a Coke or Pepsi.
Hmm... I guess I should've picked SS.

YAY!!! I'm only 40 min from Raleigh ... I'm back in pop land?! I never thought this far S and E I'd get to use "pop" without funny looks.
I have a question for all the "Coke" people.
How does a menu look? For instance here it would be:
Soft Drinks (or Soda) $1.75
Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Root Beer, Minute Maid Orange
Does it say:
Coke $1.75
Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7 Up etc.

I think it's only the midwesterners/northeasterns who say Pop.

The first item on your menu.
I'm in coke country, but around here, if someone says coke, I take it to mean a dark beverage (pepsi, coke, dr pepper, etc).
But then again, I'm a southern transplant, not a native.

I'm in the South and I've never heard it called anything but pop around here.
