Pregnant after 35

Told my boss today!

WHEW!  Well, that was harder than I thought!  I have only been with the company 7 months and actually received a promotion last month!  So, I have been extremely nervous about telling my employer I am pregnant.  I didn't want them to regret hiring me or moving me into this promotion.  But all went well when I told my boss this morning, which made me feel great!  Talk about a huge weight lifted off my shoulders!  I went through an IUI procedure, so I have literally known I was pregnant since I was two weeks.  So, quite a long time for me to be stressing over this.

Anyway...all is good and she was happy for me (so she says).  She made me feel like everything would work out and be ok.  That's all I needed to hear, so I'm grateful.  Thanks for letting me share!

  • What a relief that must be! So glad that's over for you. I dreaded telling my boss too and felt great once I did.

    Whew!

  • I still haven't told mine - not my direct boss.  But I'm fairly sure he knows - I work in the Seattle office and he works in Nashville - we've never even met!!

I suppose one of these days I need to send him an email and let him know to expect my maternity leave...

  • I'm glad to hear it went well!! I was in a similar situation.

While I've actually worked for the company for 10 years, I had JUST gotten a new manager due to yet another "reorg". I had been super sick and working 70 hours a week (including weekends).

Finally, I just snapped when I found out it was due to pregnancy... I said "look I know you don't know me yet, and I hate to drop this on you, but I've been sick and it turns out it's because I'm pregnant." I told him I wasn't going to risk my pregnancy and my health by doing more than I really could.

He was totally understanding.. and fortunately for me, knew exactly who I was because I was spoken so highly of as the "torch" was being transferred from one manager to another.

Not only did he understand and get me an additional Project Manager so I could cut my hours back to reasonable ones, but he also got me a 1500 dollar employee "award" and a 7% raise 2 months later.

It's great to work for someone that really appreciates that you can be a great employee and asset and be totally understanding when you need to "have a life".

No one in the office has said anything, they must just think I am packing on the pounds! Winkha ha

I haven't told yet, as I cam back to work and have been treated babdley, my maternity leave placement has taken my posiion etc. so I am waiting as long as possible Big Smile As well there is training scheduled that I want to attend, and wanted to wait to ensure I was going, as they might change their minds otherwise...
