I feel bad....

I always feel bad leaving the dog at home during the day.  She's a great dog and she normally just watches TV while I'm at work.  lol.  I actually cried on the way to work and got to thinking about a few things.  What the heck am I going to do when I have to leave the baby when I go back to work!?

  • I'm a guilty dog-mom too...

Camp Bow Wow is a godsend - doggie day camp. Look for one in your area.

She'd love the doggie day camp.

  • I know what you mean, I feel bad leaving our cats when we go OOT. I like the idea of a doggie day camp, maybe just a couple days a week?

  • I feel bad leaving my dog too. I'm glad I have mat leave for a year so I can be home with him and the baby.

Luckily you don't leave a baby alone like a dog, they baby will actually be with at least one other person. Check your guilt at the door.

Doggy daycare rocks, it's just expensive. We just use it when we'll be gone for a really long time, like over 9 hours or so. My dog is put in a kennel when we leave and actually LOVES his kennel. He hangs out in there when we're home even.

  • Our lab puppy goes for a couple of half days to doggie day care each week. It's so worth it, especially now that I'm having a hard time getting her enough exercise.

  • I would get so worried and feel so guilty about leaving my dog at home until it really sank in that every single time I came home, I would be waking her up as a came in the door LOL. She totally just slept all day while I worried about her.

I think it will be the same way with a LO. You'll feel SO terrible while she/he is running around daycare not thinking about you at all. Awful and really great at the same time.

  • When I went from 6 hours per day 5 days per week to 12 hours per day 3 days per week I started sending the dog to puppy daycare. My coworkers thought that I was insane but the dog LOVES it (goes happy crazy when I we pull up to the place) and her opinion is totally more important.
  • My puppy usually gets to lay in bed or on the couch looking out the window all day, but I had to start putting her in the kennel today and I feel horrible.  I took her to the vet yesterday and she either blew out her back left knee or tore some ligaments in it.  So, now she is supposed to be on strict rest, so kennel during the day and she isn't supposed to get excited and jumping...yeah right!

  • And the great thing about my high-energy dog going to day camp - she comes back exhausted. Sleep the entire next day! No guilt there!

It is expensive but if you can swing it - 100% worth it for the dog's sanity and yours.

  • The doggie day care is a good idea!  She's a chubby black lab so she needs more exercise.  Wink

Thank you and I'm happy I'm not alone here.

  • I'm right there with you I cried this morning putting our dogs in the kennel. Mainly because they have to be in there 5 hours today since DH had court right after he got off work...so they are very spoiled in that DH is home during the day and I'm home at night with them. I know they don't really care, but I still feel so bad for them. I'm not sure how I'm gonna handle it if DH goes to day shift next year and they have to be kenneled for 8 hours!

  • I used to have to go into the office 5 days/week and the dogs were home alone all day, but I thought 'at least they have each other'. We had my first dog for a year before we got the second, and we sent him to doggie daycare a couple days a week, and that really helped (but was $$$!).

I'm very lucky now that I am able to work from home a few days a week, so the dogs are only in their crates a day or two during the week.

My dogs are my babies, so I totally know how you feel! I'm starting to worry that I'm going to feel awful about playing and cuddling with them less when the baby gets here!

Your GS is GORGEOUS!!! Ours is a GS/Collie mix, we get a whole lot of compliments. They're great dogs aren't they? Sigma is so obedient, loyal, and caring! I love her so much!!!  I can't wait to see my dogs interact with the baby!
