SAHM's who have gone back to work

I am contemplating quiting my current job to stay home with my little ones. But I am worried when I try to re-enter the job market I will have a hard time finding something because of the gap in employment. What has been your experience? Did employers ask about the gap? I am in the accounting field if that matters.

  • Depends on your profession.  May I ask what you would be looking for if you went back?

I was a SAHM for about two years before going back to work part-time. I've been with my current employer for almost 3 years. The time I took off was not a factor for me in obtaining my current job. At some point if I go back to work full time, I am hopeful that the time spent in my part-time job will be viewed more favorably than it would be if I'd spent all of that time unemployed.
  • I think as long as you can show that you've kept your skills current as far as certifications and regulatory changes etc, you shouldn't have a problem. I know they have special "Nurse Re-Entry" programs/classes for nurses who are going back after 5+ years. Do they have anything like that for accounting?
