  • For Z I took a class (6 weeks long) & it ended when I was 34-35 weeks, (delivering at almost full term) so I had extra practice time. Since I can only answer once I would say my girls were manageable until the transition stage and then they were intense, and my boy (water birth) was no pressure, no pain (aside from the 10 minute car ride). :) I did not take the class again for the other children just listened to the hypno CD the last 4-6 weeks.

I took a 6 weeks hypnobirth class for Ryan at about 32 weeks.  We practiced every other day for about a half hour.  He posterior for most of early labor, so there was a lot of back pain and manageable pressure.  When they hit me with a high dose of Pitocin, I gave up and didn't even try to continue with hypno.  I didn't know what I know now about posterior babies and the like.  If I were to do that birth again, I'd do it differently now.

With Aaron, I did the crash course of hypnobabies at 37 weeks and practiced daily for about an hour (Aaron came at 39 weeks, so it was only two weeks of practice).  At the end there was intense, but manageable pressure with that one and no pain.  It was a very different experience than the first time around.

I get a lot of people asking me which is the better course, so I'm trying to get a feel for other people's experience.  Both really require you to practice it, which is the hard part of assessing different experiences.

  • I didn't answer your poll because I ended up getting an epi, so my birth experience was totally different.

But I started doing the hypnobabies home study course at about 20 weeks. I practiced faithfully, doing 1 or 2 CD tracks per day.

When it came to labor time, I used the visualization techniques (my calm spot) for hours, but I couldn't stand to listen to the CDs and hear the voice! I wanted nothing to do with it, as it actually put me more on edge. Weird!

  • I started early in my pregnancy and practiced often, but once I was in labor the lady's voice just pissed me off.

Pain was manageable until I was 6 or 7 cm. I think? I really think I was ok until they told me not to push when my body was pushing. But then I guess I wasn't doing hypno at that point...
