BTDT Moms: Post-delivery stashes

I know this has been discussed before, but I think I ignored the post. I didn't want to think about post-delivery stuff at that point! However, now I'm starting to think about what I'll need for me, the babe, the house, etc. after we are home.

Anyway, what are some good things to have on hand for me after the baby comes? I know I'll need pads and easy-to-cook foods, but what else? I'd just rather have everything I might need/want than send the Mr. out in the hopes that he'll pick up the right stuff, you know?

Thank you!

  • Tylenol and Ibuprofen.  You can alternate them for pain management.

    Tucks Pads (likely will get some from hospital, but may need more than you'll get)

    Nipple soothies/gel pads & cream

  • Breast pads, nipple cream, trail mix bars, or something quick to eat wherever you are able to grab it and eat it quick; Colase or another stool softener. I had my MIL go out and buy some for me when I got home. It was an akward conversation to ask for it. Thank you cards for those that brought you stuff during hospital visits. That's all I can think of right now.

  • I am def. making a lasagna and a homemade chicken pot pie and freezing them (not baking them) so I can just pop in and bake.

    I also will be making a list for my love to run to the store and get sandwich stuff, milk and cereal after baby comes.  That way it is fresh and he can handle making it.  I don't have a cooking man AT ALL so, that is my biggest concern.  The other thing I am for certain having close by is the nipple cream stuff, tucks pads and lots of comfy pajamas for myself.

  • A stool softener (esp if you have a vaginal delivery).  Pajama type clothes, esp with easy access if you are BF'ing.  I lived in yoga pants and a shorty robe (like a kimono top) like this:

  • These are all awesome! I'm going to have a good list. :)

    In the beginning, it's sometimes hard to keep track of which side you last BF on, or your baby's poop/pee diapers if you and your DH are taking turns, so I keep a pad of paper and a pen ready to record things until I get into the groove of things.

    I'm a FTM and a friend of mine said she kept a rubber band around the wrist of the side she last BF on to help her keep track and this completely slipped my mind until I saw you wrote this!

    And diaper changing will most likely be shared between us so this is a good tip for us to keep in mind!

  • For your "personal" needs:

    * Stool softeners
    * tucks pads
    * heavy pads (maybe TMI but I got the always ones that came with a "cleansing * wipe" for each pad, that was handy)
    * Granny panties
    * Motrin
    * nipple cream
    * numbing spray (I took the can from the hospital but needed more)
    * breast pads (I had lansinoh ones)

    For "baby-related" needs:

    * at least 2 water bottles, chances are you'll leave one downstairs or something so I had one for each level
    * Granola bars/snacks for nighttime feedings
    *** I downloaded the app "Total Baby" to track all feedings (which side/how long each side lasted and how long since last feeding), diapers (#1 or #2 and how long since) and naps (duration and how long since last one). It may have been like $5 but I used it for so long it was fantastic. And you can run it while using other apps/internet. Lifesaver.
    * a basket (I used the Sara Bear diaper caddy basket from BrU) to carry/keep everything in so you can just grab it and go wherever you need to.

  • Saving.  (Awesome list... thanks!)

    This is what I have DH around for the week after baby. But I put specifically what I'm looking for on my lists for him and he gets that. If he doesn't, I don't complain I didn't have to go out.
