What are you doing about shots?

My DD had her (almost) 2 month check-up on Tuesday. She was due to have 4 shots, but since MH and I had decided to space them out, she only received 2. (rhotovirus and tetanus). I felt comfortable with our plan and our pediatrican was right on board as well. However, a friend of mine is doing an "alternative schedule" of vaccines which got me thinking. I started to do some research on it, but I don't know how I feel about it.

What are you ladies planning on doing? If your LO had shots already (especially at the 2 month visit) which ones did they get??

Thanks!

  • I am so confused also, I know I will not give him all the shots at once but I don't know which to give... he is scheduled to have 5 injections and 1 oral dose- sooo many! I need to do more research before our appointment... I may also change pediatricians because he was not as willing as I'd like him to be about spacing them out.

  • I'm doing the normal schedule. I would rather batch the shots together because I don't think I could handle seeing her so upset so many times. That's just how I feel though. I can totally understand spacing them out too!

  • Caleb went for his 2 month check up this week and we got 4 vaccines: 3 shots and an oral. It included Hep B, DTaP, Hib, IPV, PCV7 and the Rotavirus. He fell asleep after his shots and slept for most of the day when he wasn't nursing. No fever, not really fussy and slept 8 1/2 hours that night.

  • we got them all out of the way at once.  There are a few of them that they mix together into one shot.  It was just two shots in one leg, one shot in the other, and one that was oral.  It wasn't fun, but I wouldn't have wanted to space them out...

This, except for the sleeping most of the day after the shots part.  DS screamed a little when he got them (he was already crying before that also) but he was fine.  I just gave him Tylenol periodically for about 24 hours afterwards and he didn't seem to have any issues.

DD had her first shot today. It was the DTAP shot - Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis in one. And she had the Rhotovirus oral liquid. She doesn't go back for a month, when she'll only get one shot again. My pedi chooses to spread the shots out, and I'm happy with that, so I'm going with his schedule. I may choose to delay MMR (to 2 or 3 years vs. 1 year) but I have time to think about that.
