My LO will be the first grandchild on both sides, so neither set of grand parents has any kid supplies at home. They will both be baby sitting quite often. Is there anything you ladies recommend they buy to keep in their homes to make all of our lives easier? Both of them have asked for a list of items.
Thanks!
Re: Items Grandparents should have?
What my LO's grandparents have: pack n'play, travel high chairs (strap to a dining room chair), a small box of toys.
You can find anything of these things 2nd hand. They won't get used as much as those at your hosue, but they are nice to have.
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
I bolded the part of Jill's comment that's important. Madelyn was addicted to her swing and that's the only place she'd sleep for months! Will doesn't really care about it.
I would also say several bottles since they'll need to feed baby (either with BM or formula). Baby Tylenol & a thermometer, an aspirator (nose boogey sucker), bibs and burp clothes. If they're really into a white noise machine for sleeping, I'd say to buy them a small fan they can plug in and put next to baby's bed.
When baby is older - sippy cups and toddler spoon/fork and a few of whatever toys are catching baby's attention that are only kept at G&G's house (and thus are fun and special).
both sets of parents live 2000 miles away so we leave basicly a set of everything there!
A PNP
A car seat of their own (we just got them a convertable seat)
A high chair (one that straps to the seat is what we use)
My mom has been watching my son since early on; when he was tiny, she had a PNP, bouncy chair, toys, just a couple bottles (in case I forgot one), a canister of formula, a frozen bag of BM in her freezer at all times, diapers, wipes and her own stroller. She got the stroller and bouncy chair from her neighbor, as well as several toys. Basically just enough stuff that if I spontaneously dropped him off for a few hours, he'd have what he needed.
She also had a carseat base in her car, and once he outgrew the infant seat, I bought the same carseat as I have for her car since she drives him around quite a bit.
Cruz also has a pretty extensive toy collection including a jeep at my parents house, as well has his own dvd collection there, poor kid.
My mom opted for a portable crib instead of a pnp which was great for cruz and we haven't yet used it for Jagger. I'm thinking of getting them a RNP for their house though usually he just sleeps in the little portable swing we have over there. I keep some formula and bm over there too just in case.
A crib or PNP, highchair (DH's parents have a space saver and my parents have an extra full size one that we were given), a few toys, blankets, extra diapers/wipes, a couple bottles, extra set or 2 of clothes
