angelcare monitors?

LO is still in our room in her crib.  I am not ready for her to move into her own room yet, but I was thinking if I had one of these monitors maybe it would give me more piece of mind.

anyone have one? like it? hate it?

Re: angelcare monitors?

  • a lot of the preemie parents on a board i'm on have the monitor. they seem to like it. someone told me that the monitors can be overly sensitive to movement/breaths to the point where you may be running in every other minute? not sure if they actually had one or not though.

  • We don't have these, but from what I understand, the monitors are only effective before your LO starts moving around - after that, the sensors get too confused and you can get a lot of false alarms.

We just use a regular ole sound monitor and I'm fine with that, but it sounds like you'd prefer some extra reassurance, so perhaps a video monitor would be the best bet? I think this one is the most popular model I've seen on the Bump. Smile

  • we don't have one but i think at her age you don't need to worry so much about SIDS anymore so i wouldn't purchase one right now, esp w/the false alarms it seems to get when they are older/moving

I agree -- I think she may be a little too old.  I'd just go with a regular one.

  • We have the one that just comes with one parent unit. I got it for $80 from Walmart. We like it. Even though she didn't fully transition to her crib until 2 weeks before her 1st birthday, we used the motion monitor whenever we had her in the crib for naps when she was younger and I did use it for the first two months she slept in her crib at night. After bedsharing, it was hard for me to not have her right there next to me, knowing she was breathing, etc. so that helped me. Otherwise, I am sure I would have been in there "checking" on her every couple of hours.

Recently, we disabled the motion monitor because it was going off here and there when Libby ended up scootching herself into the corner of her crib while sleeping.

They've just come out with an AngelCare monitor that has video too and boy do I wish I had that one! I can so see the benefits of having a video monitor in addition to sound as well as motion. I might have to spring for it when we have Baby #2. The one I have doesn't have the temperature reading either, which in retrospect, I wish I would have paid a bit more to get that version (I went with the cheapest model they had on the market).

That all said, I highly recommend the AngelCare monitor to all of my mama-to-be friends!
