So, we had decided to name our boy Levi James. H was telling people at work and a guy who neither of us like said, "like Levi Jeans." He is the only person who has said anything like this and it doesn't bother me. How often do you go by your first and middle name anyways, right.
Then last night I found out that there are 2 little boys named Levi in our church. Granted we live in a highly Christian area and biblical names are very common. Would you look at other names if it were you?
Re: Another name issue post
My husband doesn't like the name Levi for the same reason (Levi Jeans), but I have always loved it!
My only with the name stems from being named Sarah in 1983. In my kindergarten class I was one of 3 Sarah's (out of 24 kids). I have always said that my kid will not have a name on the top 100 class because I hated being referred to as Sarah St. (because, of course, there was already a Sarah S).
IMO, if you and your husband like the name, and don't care about name being so common in you area, I'd go for it. If it were me and my misplaced hatred of popular names, I would maybe take a look at a few others.
Since you both don't like the guy who said "Levi Jeans" then who really cares what he thinks.
As far as the two boys at your church-- as long as you are not hanging out with them all the time and close friends with their family, I see no issue.
If you love the name, then go for it.
I practically squealed when I saw the name, I LOVE IT! I wish DH liked it, because it's definitely one of my faves. If you two love it then don't change it!
Such a great name!
Thanks for the encouragement ladies, I think we'll be sticking with the name.
K-Hart: If your spiritual Levi is actual a biblical name. Levi was one of the 12 origional tribes, and the disciple Matthew was origionally named Levi (Levi means matthew in Hebrew). So I don't see how that's hillbilly at all, but I guess everyone is right. You can't please everyone so name your kid what YOU want.
We ctually don't know either couple in our church that had a kid named Levi. I heard a mom call her son that and comment that it was our name and she told me there was another one in the church.
