I have the Baby Bjorn from my last pregnancy and hated it! My son has always been a heavyweight and it was really hard on my shoulders and back. Does anyone know if the Ergo is a lot better than the Bjorn? I would LOVE to carry LO and put DS in an umbrella stroller sometimes so I don't have to lug the double stroller for quick trips. Just curious if I should just tough it out with the Bjorn or if the Ergo is worth me spending money on. thanks!
Re: s/o Ergo carrier...how different than a baby Bjorn?
The Ergo has a large strap that goes around your waist, which helps with the weight. The Bjorn puts all of the weight on your shoulders, which would kill my back.
The Ergo is on Baby Steals this morning - a GREAT deal!
Yes, you really can't compare the two. Check out this site.

This lady HATES the Bjorn. Her review is pretty funny.
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

Dramatically different. I actually like the bjorn for a newborn (don't need an insert, seems to support the head better, etc.), but when DS was 3 months old my back totally gave out and I broke down and bought an Ergo. The difference was night and day.
One correction to PP: the ergo strap doesn't go around your waist - it goes around your hips, like a camping backpack. Puts ZERO weight on your lower back, which with big babies is a godsend. I would still be using it to carry DS for grocery runs, etc. if I weren't PG.
Also, re: the facing forward thing, when DS would get frustrated with that, I'd turn the ergo around and wear it like a backpack - still super-comfortable for me, and he can look over my shoulders.
As the PPs have said the Bjorn is completely different to the Ergo. The Ergo will let you carry your LO for ages, I've seen a small toddler in on at the airport.
If you want something that your LO can face the front but be more comfortable than the Bjorn you could try the Beco Gemini https://www.becobabycarrier.com/cat-13/gemini
The Bjorn is pretty hard on the baby. Their body weight is entirely resting on their pubic bone. It puts so much stress on their developing lumbosacral junction and if the straps aren't tight enough on the parent's shoulders, it puts strain on the baby's entire immature spine. These things can exacerbate any congenital issues with the hip joint and I have a sneaking suspicion the increased popularity of the Bjorn is contributing to the increase I've been seeing in toddlers with back pain. As a chiropractor, I despise the Bjorn and wish it weren't on the market.
The Ergo is better for baby and mom. The child's weight is distributed evenly over both legs from the knees up and their spine and hip joints are in a much more natural position. For parents, the baby's weight is evenly distributed over the shoulders as well as the waist. And a bonus is since the baby's knees are bent, and the kid isn't hanging by the crotch, so little heels won't keep smacking you in the thighs as you walk. I find it's also more difficult to use the Ergo improperly. Every other Bjorn I see in public is worn too low and too loose, which is extra hard on mom and baby.
