Yes, I've read and been told my a few professionals (OB and Psych doc) that it can happen anytime within a year from birth. Onset after that it isn't considered PPD but depression instead.
ETA: I was also told that changes within the first year can bring it on, like return to work, stopping nursing etc.
Ditto K & J! I have had ups and downs over the past two years. I am not sure if I attribute the ups and downs to pregnancy hormones or to other things going on in my life, but the downs for me mainly seemed to correspond w/ stopping BF-ing. But in general- so many changes in your life due to having a baby.
And then trying to convince myself that- WOW- here I am with the things (children) I wanted the most in the world, my life seems like it should be all good.... why am I feeling this way?!?!!?!.... Emotions and logic don't always match up.
I hate harping but given what else you've posted, this could be connected to a thyroid issue. I had anxiety that set in at about 8 months that was accompanied by (in no particular order) insomnia, sudden weight loss, hair loss, heart palpitations. I hope you feel better soon.

I had it with Jonathan from the get go...But I feel like it hit full swing about 6-7 months when he was nursing less. I almost wanted to try and make him nurse more to help me feel better.
Somethings going on with you...we already know what its not so all we can do is keep scratching things off the list trying to figure out what it is...
I had a mild case probably when Charlie was around 7 or 9 months. I didn't do anything for it but probably should have. It eventually went away on its own. I really felt like I had a rain cloud hanging over my head and I was sad and I had no idea why. I had no reason to be sad. Hope everything is ok.

Hugs to you. I have no personal experience but just wanted to pass along my two cents: To answer your question, yes you can have late onset. I recently went to a conference on PPD a couple of weeks ago. What I learned (from the medical community) is the 3 main types: baby blues, postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Baby blues typically occur shortly after birth, PPD can occur anytime after delivery up to a year after birth, and PP is a very serious condition and very rare.

Thyroid and all other lab work came back normal.

I can't even begin to explain the crazy that was in my head between 6-8 months. In short, yes it can.
Particularly this is when sh!t hit the fan for me. I think Maddy was 7 months.
Thank you so much for sharing. Seriously. Thank you.

HUGE hugs to you!!!
Its not late onset. Anything within year of giving birth or weaning is considered PPD.
