I am in complete disbelief

I have been job hunting which has been such a hassle being preggers, well as of today my husband got laid off from work.

What makes this all hurt so much more is the fact we moved up to Washington from Texas for this job. I left all my family and friends and now we are expecting. Why does everything have to always be so hard? I am ready to give up.....

Re: I am in complete disbelief

  • Ugh, that sounds awful and I know it's awful. After we had our DD, my husband lost his job. The recession was at a fun point, so we moved in with the ILs for 18 months, unable to find jobs. It was horrible, but we made it through and now we're about to graduate from college in two weeks. Just remember that when things look their worst, there is always something wonderful on the horizon. For you, the birth of your child is around the corner and jobs can't stay away forever. Perhaps this means you can move back near family, too. :) Good luck and keep your head up.

  • I am so sorry! My husband was laid off from his job 4 weeks ago and I have been on medical leave since week 6. :( Luckily we had quite a bit of money saved up and my husband has been looking for a job like crazy but the economy is horrible right now.
  • Sorry about that, I hope things start to look up. I haven't been to work for 9 weeks now and I usually bring home the money for our major bills. One thing I do know is that God is always there when he is needed. I will keep you and your husband in prayer and hope everything starts to turn around.

  • ((hugs)) Sorry your in this situation right now. These things always seem to work themselves out. Hang in there.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this.  DH and I went through this for almost an entire summer once, and it was one of the most difficult times!  It's hard enough with one person not working, but when you both aren't working it almost feels like the walls are closing in.  I hope one or both of you are able to find something in the very near future.

  • Thank you all for the love and support. It makes me a little more optimistic knowing some of you are going/have gone through the same thing. I do believe everything happens for a reason and this is all in Gods plan for us...I just wish it didn't have to be so dang hard!!
  • I am so sorry that you are going through this.  I totally understand as I lost my job last Thursday.  My income is much needed, as is the insurance that I carried through my job.

As everyone says, and I believe, things happen when they happen for a reason.  I hope you find that reason soon!  The last thing you need is extra stress during the pregnancy.

Best of luck to you and your DH in finding a new job!

  • I am so sorry - that is really horrible.

Is there any way you can go back to TX and do a job search there?

  • I'm so sorry that you're going through this it sounds very stressful.  I know that a couple of years ago I had gotten laid off and was soo depressed over it, soon after I found a better job than the one that I had been laid off from and was so much more happy so maybe that will be the case for him too.

  • I am so sorry. If you need help with budgeting or whaver you should check on the Money Matters board on The Nest. Those girls are very helpful, but be warned they will be upfront and sometimes that can come off as harsh.

  • Im really sorry to hear about your situation...and its extra terrible that you moved just for this job...did you buy a home or are you renting? Maybe going back to your friends and family in Texas could help lessen the burden of having to find a job this second, and you would have more support around you. The economy is picking up so I hope you both find somthing soon!

  • I am sorry this happened to you. My BF lost his job twice (hired, laid off, rehired) when I was pregnant with my son. I thought I was going to die each time. He was working two jobs and just got laid off from one. The other doesn't pay as well. I work full time but my doctor talks about pulling me from work because of my migraines. I tell her she can get lost at this point. He sends out so many resumes a day and it doesn't matter, he keeps getting hired at temp to hire places. They always lay off after a few months around here. This economy sucks and it's really scary what is down the road.

  • Ugh! No fun at all! I hope that something works out and a job is found soon. I can only imagine going through a hard time and not being surrounded by friends/family. And I am sure this WONDERFUL rainy Washington weather isn't helping....that alone is pretty depressing.

    Good luck!!!

  • Sorry to hear this, Can he get unemployment benefits?  At least you can get some money.  Also, can you go to your local unemploement center and ask for help?  What kind of work do you do?  Maybe you can get a temp job?  I was "let go" from my job, thank G-d, DH has a good job, but I got a temp job that lasts until June and then I can get unemployment....

If you get a temp job, they will not care if you are pregnant....

I hope this works out for you...Try not to worry so much, so that you can enjoy your pregnancy....

  • I am so sorry. Hang in there. I hope that YH is able to collect unemployment. Best of luck.
  • I'm so sorry to hear this, but like others posted possibly it is a blessing in disguise!

I'm in recruiting and the Texas Market (Houston in particular) has really picked up and there are a lot of jobs out there right now. Maybe this is your opportunity to move back closer to home and raise your child near family.

    Good luck!
