    Yes

I totally agree!!!! Although I have thought about using a "leash" for events like theme parks, and other places where my child could get out of sight in a hurry...still think they're a little silly though!

  • I've only seen people use leashes in public a handful of times but each time it looked a lot like this!  Thanks for sharing that totally gave me a much needed chuckle!

  • I will say that I use a leash so that my son doesnt have to hold his arm up in the air for extended periods of time...I'd rather him be on a leash then risk pulling his arm out of its socket because he has to stretch to reach mine or DH's hands.

My DS walks along side us though and doesnt typically try to run off.  I certainly can't say we've ever had an instance that was out of control.

A leash may look silly but my uncle who works in the ER would recomend it over as many injuries he's seen because parents don't use them!

That's a very interesting point...never thought about that. I wouldn't want to hold my hand up in the air for long either.

    Edited would to wouldn't.

  • That's hilarious! On the leash topic, I remember my parents had something for my brother and I that went around our wrists and looked a lot less like a leash that these things but was actually a leash. Seems like it was a good thing and didn't traumatize us...

    Very interesting point!

As to the post about needing a spanking - those are kids that definitely look like they deserve something like that!

  • It looks like she has more problems than a leash can fix. Indifferent

AIRPORTS, when they're big enough for this! That, and the zoo or a fair is the only time I use it with my DS.... and only because if he has to sit in a stroller for too long, he becomes a very cranky boy. This enables him to walk around, but stay "with" me, whether he wants to or not!

He actually thinks they're pretty cool, because he can put his own cup and snacks in the little backpack part, or sometimes a small toy or two... so he doesn't see it as a "bad thing"

As to whomever said the kids in the picture need a spanking: I don't disagree. I'd swat my boy on the butt if he were being that rediculous in a place like that. (Looks like an airport!)  I have a "leash/backpack" for my DS>.. but he has never done anything like that while wearing it! (And I don't use it often, anyways.)

Agreed and this is why my mother just leashed my sister and I to each other.

  • This totally shows there is a correct and not so correct way to do things. I definitely agree with the need for a spanking.

I totally intend to use a leash. I had a harness leash as a child because I hated to be in the stroller. My parents used it when we were in very crowded public place. It gave me the "freedom" I wanted and my parents the ability to keep an eye on me in crowded places.

I agree with not making it a bad thing.

  • We have one for DD. She's pretty darn proud of her 'pack pack'. It's a Winnie the Pooh back pack with detachable leash. We've used it once last summer to take her to the Zoo because we knew she wouldn't sit in the stroller the entire time and with the number of people on a Saturday at the Zoo.... yikes!

That woman definatly needs more help then what the leashes can provide. And i can enjoy giggling that it's not me!

I don't use a leash for DS, but I completely agree with what is stated above. I probably should use a leash because my son has had several injuries from holding our hand and then tripping accidentally and his elbow dislocates. It's called "Nurse Maids Elbow"....google it. It is very painful for him and I had to take him to the ER twice before they taught me how to fix it myself. Now if it happens I can put his elbow back into it's socket. Makes me so nervous but I know how to do it.

I was told this is a VERY common toddler injury. I do not tug on my sons arms at all, this happened one time when he tripped and I held on to his arm to stop him from falling to the ground, and that caused the elbow to dislocate. And once it does that it becomes weak and can dislocate very easily.  Now simply twisting it the wrong way when he's playing by himself on a jungle gym could dislocate it....so now that I think of it, a leash is not such a bad idea.

However, those kids in the pic are obviously misbehaving...
